Between Us - the covenant of YAH with his people (with video)

Author Stephen Pidgeon - Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 12:00 AM

Is there a covenant given to us from our Creator? If there were, would you be blessed, or cursed?

Shemoth (Exodus) 19:5
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and guard את eth-my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak unto the children of Yashar’el.

Shemoth (Exodus) 19:7-9
And Mosheh came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces את eth all these words which YAHUAH commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that YAHUAH has spoken we will do. And Mosheh returned את eth-the words of the people unto EL-YAHUAH. 9 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Lo, I come unto you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever. And Mosheh told את eth-the words of the people unto EL-YAHUAH.

Did YAHUAH actually speak to the people?

Shemoth (Exodus) 19:16-19
And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the Mount, and the voice of the shofar exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. 17 And Mosheh brought forth את eth-the people out of the camp to meet with ELOHIYM; and they stood at the nether part of the Mount. 18 And Mount Ciynai was altogether on a smoke, because YAHUAH descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the shofar sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Mosheh spoke, and ELOHIYM answered him by a voice.

Devariym (Deuteronomy) 5:1-4
AND Mosheh called all Yashar’el, and said unto them, Hear, O Yashar’el, את eth-the commandments and את eth-the judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, guard them, and do them. 2 YAHUAH ELOHAYNU cut a covenant with us in Chorev. 3 YAHUAH cut not את eth-this covenant with our fathers, but את eth-with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 4 YAHUAH talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

And what is this covenant?

  • I am YAHUAH ELOHAYKA . . .
  • You shall have no other elohiym before me . . .
  • You shall not make you any graven image, . . .
  • You shall not take את eth-the name of YAHUAH ELOHAYKA in vain . . .
  • Guard את eth-the day of the Shabbath; to sanctify it . . .
  • Honour את eth-your father and את eth-your mother . . .
  • You shall not kill . . .
  • Neither shall you break wedlock . . .
  • Neither shall you steal . . .
  • Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor . . .
  • Neither shall you lust after . . . anything that is your neighbour's.

Devariym (Deuteronomy) 10:1-4
את eth-These words YAHUAH spoke unto all your assembly in the Mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them on two sapphire stones, and delivered them unto me.

Therefore, we must distinguish between the Torah of Mosheh, and the Torah (Covenant) of YAHUAH.  For these words were spoken by YAHUAH to the whole of the House of Yashar’el and all of those who sojourned with them at the camp at Chorev, and these were the words which he himself wrote on the two stones and delivered them to Mosheh. These words – the ten Devariym – these are the Torah of YAHUAH.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 7:21-23

Thus says YAHUAH TSEVA’OTH, the ELOHAI of Yashar’el; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh. 22 For I spoke not את eth-unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: 23 But את eth-this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your ELOHIYM, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:31-34; Ivriym (Hebrews) 8:8-12
Behold, the days come, says YAHUAH, that I will cut a Renewed Covenant with the את eth-house of Yashar’el, and with the את eth-house of Yahudah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I cut את eth-with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim; which את eth-my covenant they broke, although I was a husband unto them, says YAHUAH: 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the את eth-house of Yashar’el; After those days, says YAHUAH, I will put את eth-my Torah in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their ELOHIYM, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man את eth-his neighbour, and every man את eth-his brother, saying, Know את eth-YAHUAH: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, says YAHUAH: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

חדשׁה  ברית  Brit Chadasha

brit (Strong’s 1285) means a compact or covenant.

chadasha (Strong’s 2318) means to rebuild, to renew or to repair.

Mattithyahu (Matthew) 26:27-28
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the Renewed Covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

The Renewed Covenant here in the Greek is the καινός kainós διαθήκη diathḗkē.

Kainos means new or fresh, like a fresh new day; although the root of the word kainos is νέος néos, which means fresh or regenerated (like Neo-Classical; Neo-Conservative, etc.)

Diatheke means a disposition; a contract, a covenant, or a testament (such as a Last Will and Testament).

So we see that the Greek also declares this to be a refreshed, regenerated, or renewed covenant, contract, disposition or testament.
