Weekly Torah Portion

It is considered a great joy to study the Torah via the portions that were set out by Ezra to read through the Cepheriym Mosheh (Five Books of Moses), also referred to as the Pentateuch. In addition to the traditional Torah portions, we have also included weekly readings from the Haftorah (Prophets) and the Besorah (Gospels). These portions are also collectively available in our publication titled Parshat; a hardcover perpetual book for annual study. Parshat: Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 12:1 - 17:27

Now Yahuah had said unto El-Avram: Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house, unto a land that I will show you: 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Avram departed, as Yahuah had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Avram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 5 And Avram took Sarai his woman, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Kena`an; and into the land of Kena`an they came.

6 And Avram passed through the land unto the place of Shekem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Kena`aniy was then in the land. 7 And Yahuah appeared unto El-Avram and said: Unto your seed will I give this land: and there built he an altar unto Yahuah, who appeared unto him. 8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beyt-El, and pitched his tent, having Beyt-El on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he built an altar unto Yahuah, and called upon the name of Yahuah. 9 And Avram journeyed, going on still toward the Negev.

10 And there was a famine in the land: and Avram went down into Mitsrayim to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land. 11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Mitsrayim, that he said unto El-Sarai his woman: Behold now, I know that you are a fair woman to look upon: 12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Mitsriym shall see you, that they shall say: This is his woman: and they will kill me, but they will save you alive. 13 Say, I pray you, you are my sister: that it may be well with me for your sake; and my soul shall live because of you.

14 And it came to pass, that, when Avram was come into Mitsrayim, the Mitsriym beheld the woman that she was very fair. 15 The princes also of Phar`oh saw her and commended her before Phar`oh: and the woman was taken into Phar`oh’s house. 16 And he intreated Avram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels. 17 And Yahuah plagued Phar`oh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Avram’s woman. 18 And Phar`oh called Avram, and said: What is this that you have done unto me? Why did you not tell me that she was your woman? 19 Why said you: She is my sister? So I might have taken her to me to be my woman: now therefore behold your woman, take her, and go your way. 20 And Phar`oh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his woman, and all that he had.

CHAPTER 13

And Avram went up out of Mitsrayim, he, and his woman, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev. 2 And Avram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 3 And he went on his journeys from the Negev even to Beyt-El, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beyt-El and Ai; 4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Avram called on the name of Yahuah.

5 And Lot also, which went with Avram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. 6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. 7 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Avram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle: and the Kena`aniy and the Perizziy dwelled then in the land. 8 And Avram said unto Lot: Let there be no strife, I pray you, between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we be brethren. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, I pray you, from me: if you will take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left. 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the circle of the Yardan, that it was well watered everywhere, before Yahuah destroyed Cedom and Amorah, even as the garden of Yahuah, like the land of Mitsrayim, as you come unto Tso`ar. 11 Then Lot chose him את all the circle of the Yardan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. 12 Avram dwelt in the land of Kena`an, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the circle of the Yardan and pitched his tent toward Cedom. 13 But the men of Cedom were wicked and sinners before Yahuah exceedingly.

14 And Yahuah said unto El-Avram, after that Lot was separated from him: Lift up now your eyes, and look from the place where you are northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: 15 For all the land which you see, to you will I give it, and to your seed forever. 16 And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall your seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto you. 18 Then Avram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Chevron, and built there an altar unto Yahuah.

CHAPTER 14

And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shin`ar, Aryok king of Ellacar, Kedorla`omer king of Eylam, and Tid`al king of Nations; 2 That these made war with Bera king of Cedom, and with Birsha king of Amorah, Shin’av king of Admah, and Shem’eber king of Tseviyiym, and the king of Bela, which is Tso`ar. 3 All these were joined together in the valley of Siddiym, which is the Salt Sea. 4 Twelve years they served Kedorla`omer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 And in the fourteenth year came Kedorla`omer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Repha’iym in Ashteroth Qarnayim, and the Zuziym in Cham, and the Eymiym in Shaveh Qiryathayim, 6 And the Choriym in their Mount Se`iyr, unto Eyl Pa’ran, which is by the wilderness. 7 And they returned, and came to Eyn Mishpat, which is Qadesh, and smote all the country of the Amaleqiym, and also the Emoriym, that dwelt in Chatstson Tamar. 8 And there went out the king of Cedom, and the king of Amorah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Tseviyiym, and the king of Bela (the same is Tso`ar;) and they joined battle with them in the valley of Siddiym; 9 את With Kedorla`omer the king of Eylam, and with Tid`al king of Nations, and Amraphel king of Shin`ar, and Aryok king of Ellacar; four kings with five. 10 And the valley of Siddiym was full of slime pits; and the kings of Cedom and Amorah fled and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain. 11 And they took all the goods of Cedom and Amorah, and all their victuals, and went their way. 12 And they took Lot, Avram’s brother's son, who dwelt in Cedom, and his goods, and departed.

13 And there came one that had escaped and told Avram the Ivriy; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Emoriy, brother of Eshkol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Avram. 14 And when Avram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. 15 And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Chovah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. 16 And he brought back את all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

17 And the king of Cedom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Kedorla`omer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley. 18 And Malkiy-Tsedeq king of Shalem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of El Elyon. 19 And he blessed him, and said: Blessed be Avram of El Elyon, possessor of heaven and earth: 20 And blessed be El Elyon, which has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him tithes of all. 21 And the king of Cedom said unto El-Avram: Give me the persons and take the goods to yourself. 22 And Avram said to the king of Cedom, I have lift up my hand unto El- Yahuah, El Elyon, the possessor of heaven and earth, 23 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoe latchet, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Avram rich: 24 Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.

CHAPTER 15

After these things the Word of Yahuah came unto El-Avram in a vision, saying: Fear not, Avram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward. 2 And Avram said, Adonai Yahuah, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliy`ezer of Damascus? 3 And Avram said: Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is my heir. 4 And, behold, the Word of Yahuah came unto him, saying: This shall not be your heir; but he that shall come forth out of your own generation shall be your heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said: Look now toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you be able to number them: and he said unto him: So shall your seed be. 6 And he believed in Yahuah; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him: I am Yahuah that brought you out of Ur of the Kasdiym, to give you this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, Adonai Yahuah, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? 9 And he said unto him: Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon. 10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not. 11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, Avram drove them away. 12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Avram; and, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. 13 And he said unto Avram: Know of a surety that your seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15 And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Emoriym is not yet full. 17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. 18 In the same day Yahuah cut a covenant with Avram, saying: Unto your seed have I given this land, from the river of Mitsrayim unto the great river, the river Perath: 19 The Qeyniyiym, and the Qenizziym, and the Qadmoniym, 20 And the Chittiym, and the Perizziym, and the Repha’iym, 21 And the Emoriym, and the Kena`aniym, and the Girgashiym, and the Yevuciym.

CHAPTER 16

Now Sarai, Avram’s woman bore him no children: and she had a handmaid, a Mitsriy, whose name was Ha’ger. 2 And Sarai said unto El-Avram: Behold now, Yahuah has restrained me from bearing: I pray you, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Avram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. 3 And Sarai Avram’s woman took Ha’ger her maid the Mitsriy, after Avram had dwelt ten years in the land of Kena`an and gave her to her man Avram to be his woman.

4 And he went in unto Ha’ger, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. 5 And Sarai said unto El-Avram: My wrong be upon you: I have given my maid into your bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: Yahuah judge between me and you. 6 But Avram said unto El-Sarai: Behold, your maid is in your hand; do to her as it pleases you. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

7 And the angel of Yahuah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. 8 And he said, Ha’ger, Sarai's maid, whence came you? And whither will you go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. 9 And the angel of Yahuah said unto her: Return to your mistress and submit yourself under her hands. 10 And the angel of Yahuah said unto her, I will multiply your seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. 11 And the angel of Yahuah said unto her: Behold, you are with child, and shall bear a son, and shall call את his name Yishma`el; because Yahuah has heard your affliction. 12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. 13 And she called the name of Yahuah that spoke unto her, El Ro`iy (you see me): for she said: Have I also here looked after him that sees me? 14 Wherefore the well was called Be`er La-Chai Ro`iy; behold, it is between Qadesh and Bered.

15 And Ha’ger bore Avram a son: and Avram called his son's name, which Ha’ger bore, Yishma`el. 16 And Avram was fourscore and six years old, when Ha’ger bore Yishma`el to Avram.

CHAPTER 17

And when Avram was ninety years old and nine, Yahuah appeared to El-Avram, and said unto him: I am El Shaddai; walk before me, and be perfect. 2 And I will make my covenant between me and you and will multiply you exceedingly. 3 And Avram fell on his face: and Elohiym talked with him, saying: 4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. 5 Neither shall your name anymore be called Avram, but your name shall be Avraham; for a father of many nations have I made you. 6 And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be Elohiym unto you, and to your seed after you. 8 And I will give unto you, and to your seed after you, את the land wherein you are a stranger, את all the land of Kena`an, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their Elohiym.

9 And Elohiym said unto El-Avraham: You shall guard my covenant therefore, you, and your seed after you in their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which ye shall guard, between me and you and your seed after you; Every male child among you shall be circumcised. 11 And ye shall circumcise את the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a sign of the covenant betwixt me and you. 12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of your seed. 13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, must need to be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised male child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.

15 And Elohiym said unto El-Avraham: As for Sarai your woman, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. 16 And I will bless her and give you a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. 17 Then Avraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart: Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? And shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18 And Avraham said unto Elohiym, O that Yishma`el might live before you! 19 And Elohiym said, Sarah your woman shall bear you a son; indeed, and you shall call his name Yitschaq: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. 20 And as for Yishma`el, I have heard you: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But my covenant will I establish with Yitschaq, which Sarah shall bear unto you at this set time in the next year. 22 And he left off talking with him, and Elohiym went up from Avraham.

23 And Avraham took Yishma`el his son, and את all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Avraham’s house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as Elohiym had said unto him. 24 And Avraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And Yishma`el his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised את in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 In the selfsame day was Avraham circumcised, and Yishma`el his son. 27 And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.

Haftorah: Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 40:27 - 41:16

27 Why say you, O Ya`aqov, and speak, O Yashar’el; My way is hidden from Yahuah, and my judgment is passed over from my Elohiym?

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard, that Elohai Olam, Yahuah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. 29 He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon Yahuah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

CHAPTER 41

Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment. 2 Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? He gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow. 3 He pursued them and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet. 4 Who has wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I Yahuah, the first, and with the last; I am he. 5 The isles saw it and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. 6 They helped everyone his neighbor; and everyone said to his brother: Be of good courage. 7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smooths with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying: It is ready for the soldering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved. 8 But you, Yashar’el, are my servant, Ya`aqov whom I have chosen, the seed of Avraham my friend. 9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called you from the chief men thereof, and said unto you, you are my servant; I have chosen you, and not cast you away.

10 Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your Elohiym: I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. 11 Behold, all they that were incensed against you shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with you shall perish. 12 You shall seek them, and shall not find them, even them that contended with you: they that war against you shall be as nothing, and as a thing of naught. 13 For I Yahuah Elohayka will hold your right hand, saying unto you, Fear not; I will help you. 14 Fear not, you worm Ya`aqov, and ye men of Yashar’el; I will help you, says Yahuah, and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Yashar’el. 15 Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff. 16 You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and you shall rejoice in Yahuah and shall glory in the Holy One of Yashar’el.

Besorah: Mattithyahu (Matthew) 1:1-17

The cepher of the generation of Yahusha Ha’Mashiach, the son of David, the son of Avraham. 2 Avraham begat Yitschaq; and Yitschaq begat Ya`aqov; and Ya`aqov begat Yahudah and his brethren; 3 And Yahudah begat Perets and Zerach of Tamar; and Perets begat Chetsron; and Chetsron begat Aram; 4 And Aram begat Ammiynadav; and Ammiynadav begat Nachshon; and Nachshon begat Salmah; 5 And Salmah begat Bo`az of Rachav; and Bo`az begat Oved of R’oth; and Oved begat Yishai; 6 And Yishai begat David the king; and David the king begat Shalomah of her that had been the woman of Uriyahu; 7 And Shalomah begat Rechav`am; and Rechav`am begat Aviyahu; and Aviyahu begat Aca; 8 And Aca begat Yahushaphat; and Yahushaphat begat Yoram; and Yoram begat את Uzziyahu; 9 And Uzziyahu begat Yotham; and Yotham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Yechizqiyahu; 10 And Yechizqiyahu begat Menashsheh; and Menashsheh begat Amon; and Amon begat Yo’shiyahu; 11 And Yo’shiyahu begat Yekonyahu and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babel: 12 And after they were brought to Babel, Yekonyahu את begat She’altiy’el; and She’altiy’el begat Zerubbavel; 13 And Zerubbavel begat Aviyhud; and Aviyhud begat Elyaqiym; and Elyaqiym begat את Azzur; 14 And Azzur begat Tsadoq; and Tsadoq begat Yoqiym; and Yoqiym begat El’ayil; 15 And El’ayil begat El`azar; and El`azar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Ya`aqov; 16 And Ya`aqov begat Yoceph the father of Miryam, of whom was born Yahusha, who is called Mashiach. 17 So all the generations from Avraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babel are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babel unto Mashiach are fourteen generations.
