15 Asar Shenayim (Adar) - 21 Asar Shenayim (Adar)

PARSHAT: Shemoth 13:17- 17:16

And it came to pass, when Phar`oh had let את eth-the people go, that ELOHIYM led them not through the way of the land of the Pelishtiym, although that was near; for ELOHIYM said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Mitsrayim: 18 But ELOHIYM led את eth-the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea: and the children of Yisra’el went up harnessed out of the land of Mitsrayim. 19 And Mosheh took את eth-the bones of Yoceph with him: for he had straitly sworn את eth-the children of Yisra’el, saying, ELOHIYM will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up את eth-my bones away hence with you.

20 And they took their journey from Cukkoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 21 And YAHUAH went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

CHAPTER 14

AND YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, that they turn and encamp before Piy Ha-Chiyroth,[i] between Migdol and the sea, over against Ba`al Tsephon:[ii] before it shall ye encamp by the sea. 3 For Phar`oh will say of the children of Yisra’el, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in. 4 And I will harden את eth-Phar`oh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Phar`oh, and upon all his host; that the Mitsriym may know that I am YAHUAH. And they did so.

5 And it was told the king of Mitsrayim that the people fled: and the heart of Phar`oh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let את eth-Yisra’el go from serving us? 6 And he made ready את eth-his chariot, and took את eth-his people with him: 7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Mitsrayim, and captains over everyone of them. 8 And YAHUAH hardened את eth-the heart of Phar`oh king of Mitsrayim, and he pursued after the children of Yisra’el: and the children of Yisra’el went out with a high hand. 9 But the Mitsriym pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Phar`oh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Piy Ha-Chiyroth, before Ba`al Tsephon.

10 And when Phar`oh drew nigh, the children of Yisra’el lifted up את eth-their eyes, and, behold, the Mitsriym marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Yisra’el cried out unto YAHUAH. 11 And they said unto Mosheh, Because there were no graves in Mitsrayim, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore have you dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Mitsrayim? 12 Is not this the word that we did tell you in Mitsrayim, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve את eth-the Mitsriym? For it had been better for us to serve את eth-the Mitsriym, than that we should die in the wilderness.

13 And Mosheh said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see את eth-the yeshu`ah of YAHUAH, which he will show to you today: for את eth-the Mitsriym whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more forever. 14 YAHUAH shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

15 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Wherefore cry you unto me? speak unto the children of Yisra’el, that they go forward: 16 But lift up את eth-your rod, and stretch out את eth-your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Yisra’el shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 And I, behold, I will harden את eth-the hearts of the Mitsriym, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Phar`oh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 18 And the Mitsriym shall know that I am YAHUAH, when I have gotten me honour upon Phar`oh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

19 And the angel of ELOHIYM, which went before the camp of Yisra’el, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20 And it came between the camp of the Mitsriym and the camp of Yisra’el; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light את eth-by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night. 21 And Mosheh stretched out את eth-his hand over the sea; and YAHUAH caused את eth-the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made את eth-the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Yisra’el went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

23 And the Mitsriym pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Phar`oh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch YAHUAH looked unto the host of the Mitsriym through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled את eth the host of the Mitsriym, 25 And took off את eth their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: so that the Mitsriym said, Let us flee from the face of Yisra’el; for YAHUAH fights for them against the Mitsriym.

26 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Stretch out את eth-your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Mitsriym, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. 27 And Mosheh stretched forth את eth-his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Mitsriym fled against it; and YAHUAH overthrew את eth-the Mitsriym in the midst of the sea. 28 And the waters returned, and covered את eth-the chariots, and את eth-the horsemen, and all the host of Phar`oh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. 29 But the children of Yisra’el walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 30 Thus YAHUAH saved את eth-Yisra’el that day out of the hand of the Mitsriym; and Yisra’el saw את eth-the Mitsriym dead upon the sea shore. 31 And Yisra’el saw את eth-that great work which YAHUAH did upon the Mitsriym: and the people feared את eth-YAHUAH, and believed YAHUAH, and his servant Mosheh.

CHAPTER 15

THEN sang Mosheh and the children of Yisra’el את eth-this song unto YAHUAH, and spoke, saying, I will sing unto YAHUAH, for he has triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider has he thrown into the sea. 2 YAH is my strength and song, and he is become my yeshu`ah: he is my EL, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father's ELOHIYM, and I will exalt him. 3 YAHUAH is a man of war: YAHUAH is his name. 4 Phar`oh’s chariots and his host has he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 6 Your right hand, O YAHUAH, is become glorious in power: your right hand, O YAHUAH, has dashed in pieces the enemy. 7 And in the greatness of your excellency you have overthrown them that rose up against you: you sent forth your wrath, which consumed them as stubble. 8 And with the blast of your nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 10 You blew with your RUACH,[iii] the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. 11 Who is like unto you, O YAHUAH, among the elohiym? who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. 13 You in your mercy have led forth the people which you have redeemed: you have guided them in your strength unto your holy habitation. 14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Pelehsheth. 15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Mo’av, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Kena`an shall melt away. 16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till your people pass over, O YAHUAH, till the people pass over, which you have purchased. 17 You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O YAHUAH, which you have made for you to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O ADONAI, which your hands have established. 18 YAHUAH shall reign forever and ever. 19 For the horse of Phar`oh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and YAHUAH brought again את eth-the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Yisra’el went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 And Miryam[iv] the prophetess, the sister of Aharon, took את eth-a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miryam answered them, Sing ye to YAHUAH, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider has he thrown into the sea. 22 So Mosheh brought את eth-Yisra’el from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Mosheh, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried unto EL-YAHUAH; and YAHUAH showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, 26 And said, If you will diligently hearken to the voice of YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM, and will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and guard all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, which I have brought upon the Mitsriym: for I am YAHUAH ROPHE’KA.

27 And they came to Eylim,[v] where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

CHAPTER 16

AND they took their journey from Eylim, and all the assembly of the children of Yisra’el came unto the wilderness of Ciyn,[vi] which is between Eylim and Ciynai,[vii] on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Mitsrayim. 2 And the whole assembly of the children of Yisra’el murmured against Mosheh and Aharon in the wilderness: 3 And the children of Yisra’el said unto them, Would to ELOHIYM we had died by the hand of YAHUAH in the land of Mitsrayim, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill את eth-this whole assembly with hunger.

4 Then said YAHUAH unto Mosheh, Behold, I will rain bread from the heavens for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my Torah, or no. 5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare את eth that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 6 And Mosheh and Aharon said unto all the children of Yisra’el, At evening, then ye shall know that YAHUAH has brought you out from the land of Mitsrayim: 7 And in the morning, then ye shall see את eth-the glory of YAHUAH; for that he hears את eth-your murmurings against YAHUAH: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? 8 And Mosheh said, This shall be, when YAHUAH shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that YAHUAH hears your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? את eth-your murmurings are not against us, but against YAHUAH.

9 And Mosheh spoke unto El-Aharon, Say unto all the assembly of the children of Yisra’el, Come near before YAHUAH: for he has heard את eth your murmurings. 10 And it came to pass, as Aharon spoke unto the whole assembly of the children of Yisra’el, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of YAHUAH appeared in the cloud.

11 And YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 12 I have heard את eth-the murmurings of the children of Yisra’el: speak unto them, saying, At evening ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM. 13 And it came to pass, that at evening the quails came up, and covered את eth-the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. 14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Yisra’el saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they knew not what it was. And Mosheh said unto them, This is the bread which YAHUAH has given you to eat.

16 This is the thing which YAHUAH has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. 17 And the children of Yisra’el did so, and gathered, some more, some less. 18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. 19 And Mosheh said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Mosheh; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Mosheh was wroth with them. 21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.

22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the assembly came and told Mosheh. 23 And he said unto them, This is that which YAHUAH has said, Tomorrow is the rest of the Holy holy Shabbath[viii] unto YAHUAH: את eth bake that which ye will bake today, and את eth seethe that ye will seethe; and את eth that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. 24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Mosheh bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. 25 And Mosheh said, Eat that today; for today is a Shabbath unto YAHUAH: today ye shall not find it in the field. 26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the Shabbath, in it there shall be none.

27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 28 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, How long refuse ye to guard my commandments and my Torah? 29 See, for that YAHUAH has given you the Shabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. 31 And the house of Yisra’el called את eth-the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32 And Mosheh said, This is the thing which YAHUAH commands, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see את eth-the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Mitsrayim. 33 And Mosheh said unto El-Aharon, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before YAHUAH, to be kept for your generations. 34 As YAHUAH commanded Mosheh, so Aharon laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 35 And the children of Yisra’el did eat את eth-manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did את eth-eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Kena`an. 36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

CHAPTER 17

AND all the assembly of the children of Yisra’el journeyed from the wilderness of Ciyn, after their journeys, according to the commandment of YAHUAH, and pitched in Rephiydiym:[ix] and there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Wherefore the people did chide with Mosheh, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Mosheh said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt את eth-YAHUAH? 3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Mosheh, and said, Wherefore is this that you have brought us up out of Mitsrayim, to kill us and את eth-our children and את eth-our cattle with thirst? 4 And Mosheh cried unto EL-YAHUAH, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. 5 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Go on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Yisra’el; and your rod, wherewith you smote את eth-the river, take in your hand, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Chorev; and you shall smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Mosheh did so in the sight of the elders of Yisra’el. 7 And he called the name of the place Maccah,[x] and Meriyvah,[xi] because of the chiding of the children of Yisra’el, and because they tempted את eth-YAHUAH, saying, Is YAHUAH among us, or not?

8 Then came Amaleq, and fought with Yisra’el in Rephiydiym. 9 And Mosheh said unto El-Yahusha,[xii] Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amaleq: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of ELOHIYM in my hand. 10 So Yahusha did as Mosheh had said to him, and fought with Amaleq: and Mosheh, Aharon, and Chur[xiii] went up to the top of the hill. 11 And it came to pass, when Mosheh held up his hand, that Yisra’el prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amaleq prevailed. 12 But Mosheh’s hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aharon and Chur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Yahusha discomfited את eth-Amaleq and את eth-his people with the edge of the sword. 14 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Write this for a memorial in a cepher, and rehearse it in the ears of Yahusha: for I will utterly put out את eth-the remembrance of Amaleq from under the heavens. 15 And Mosheh built an altar, and called the name of it YAHUAH NICCIY: 16 For he said, Because YAH has sworn that YAHUAH will have war with Amaleq from generation to generation.

HAFTORAH: Shofetiym 4:4 - 5:31

And Deborah, a prophetess, the woman of Lappiydoth,[i] she judged את eth-Yisra’el at that time. 5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beyt-EL in Mount Ephrayim: and the children of Yisra’el came up to her for judgment. 6 And she sent and called Baraq[ii] the son of Aviyno`am[iii] out of Qedesh Naphtaliy,[iv] and said unto him, Has not YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Yisra’el commanded, saying, Go and draw toward Mount Tavor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtaliy and of the children of Zevulun? 7 And I will draw unto you to the river Qiyshon את eth-Ciycera, the captain of Yaviyn's army, with את eth-his chariots and את eth-his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand. 8 And Baraq said unto her, If you will go with me, then I will go: but if you will not go with me, then I will not go. 9 And she said, I will surely go with you: notwithstanding the journey that you take shall not be for your honour; for YAHUAH shall sell את eth-Ciycera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Baraq to Qedesh.

10 And Baraq called את eth-Zevulun and את eth-Naphtaliy to Qedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him. 11 Now Chever the Qeyniy, which was of the children of Chovav the father in law of Mosheh, had severed himself from the Qeyniyiym, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Tsa`ananniym, which is by את eth-Qedesh. 12 And they showed Ciycera that Baraq the son of Aviyno`am was gone up to Mount Tavor. 13 And Ciycera gathered together את eth-all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and את eth-all the people that were with him, from Charosheth of the other people unto the river of Qiyshon. 14 And Deborah said unto Baraq, Up; for this is the day in which YAHUAH has delivered את eth-Ciycera into your hand: is not YAHUAH gone out before you? So Baraq went down from Mount Tavor, and ten thousand men after him. 15 And YAHUAH discomfited את eth-Ciycera, and את eth-all his chariots, and את eth-all his host, with the edge of the sword before Baraq; so that Ciycera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet. 16 But Baraq pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Charosheth of the other people: and all the host of Ciycera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left. 17 Howbeit Ciycera fled away on his feet to the tent of Ya`el[v] the woman of Chever the Qeyniy: for there was peace between Yaviyn the king of Chatsor and the house of Chever the Qeyniy.

18 And Ya`el went out to meet Ciycera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. 19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray you, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened את eth-a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. 20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man comes and inquires of you, and says, Is there any man here? that you shall say, No. 21 Then Ya`el Chever's woman took את eth-a nail of the tent, and took את eth-a hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote את eth-the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. 22 And, behold, as Baraq pursued את eth-Ciycera, Ya`el came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will show you את eth-the man whom you seek. And when he came into her tent, behold, Ciycera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. 23 So ELOHIYM subdued on that day את eth Yaviyn the king of Kena`an before the children of Yisra’el. 24 And the hand of the children of Yisra’el prospered, and prevailed against Yaviyn the king of Kena`an, until they had destroyed את eth Yaviyn king of Kena`an.

CHAPTER 5

THEN sang Deborah and Baraq the son of Aviyno`am on that day, saying, 2 Praise ye YAHUAH for the avenging of Yisra’el, when the people willingly offered themselves. 3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto YAHUAH; I will sing praise to YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Yisra’el. 4 YAHUAH, when you went out of Se`iyr, when you marched out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water. 5 The mountains melted from before YAHUAH, even that Ciynai from before YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Yisra’el. 6 In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Ya`el, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways. 7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Yisra’el, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Yisra’el. 8 They chose new elohiym; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Yisra’el? 9 My heart is toward the governors of Yisra’el, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye YAHUAH. 10 Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way. 11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of YAHUAH, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Yisra’el: then shall the people of YAHUAH go down to the gates. 12 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Baraq, and lead your captivity captive, you son of Aviyno`am. 13 Then he made him that remains have dominion over the nobles among the people: YAHUAH made me have dominion over the mighty. 14 Out of Ephrayim was there a root of them against Amaleq; after you, Binyamiyn, among your people; out of Makiyr came down governors, and out of Zevulun they that handle the pen of the writer. 15 And the princes of Yisshaqar were with Deborah; even Yisshaqar, and also Baraq: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Re’uven there were great thoughts of heart. 16 Why abode you among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Re’uven there were great searchings of heart. 17 Gil`ad abode beyond Yarden: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches. 18 Zevulun and Naphtaliy were a people that jeopardized their lives unto the death in the high places of the field. 19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Kena`an in Ta`anak by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money. 20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Ciycera. 21 The river of Qiyshon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Qiyshon. O my soul, you have trodden down strength. 22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones. 23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of YAHUAH, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of YAHUAH, to the help of YAHUAH against the mighty. 24 Blessed above women shall Ya`el the woman of Chever the Qeyniy be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 25 He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish. 26 She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Ciycera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples. 27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead. 28 The mother of Ciycera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots? 29 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself, 30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Ciycera a prey of diverse colours, a prey of diverse colours of needlework, of diverse colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil? 31 So let all your enemies perish, O YAHUAH: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goes forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

BESORAH: Mattithyahu 5:1-48

AND seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his Talmidiym came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in the ruach: for theirs is the Kingdom of YAHUAH. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see YAH. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of YAHUAH. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of YAHUAH. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a menorah; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the Torah, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For amein I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one Yod[i] or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Torah, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of YAHUAH: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the Kingdom of YAHUAH. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Parashiym, ye shall in no case enter into the Kingdom of YAHUAH.

21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of the fire of Gey Hinnom.[ii] 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has ought against you; 24 Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. 26 Amein I say unto you, You shall by no means come out thence, till you have paid the uttermost farthing.

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not break wedlock: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has broken wedlock with her already in his heart. 29 And if your right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into Gey Hinnom. 30 And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into Gey Hinnom. 31 It has been said, Whosoever shall put away his woman, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his woman, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to break wedlock: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced breaks wedlock.

33 Again, ye have heard that it has been said by them of old time, You shall not forswear yourself, but shall perform unto YAH your oaths: 34 But I say unto you, Swear not falsely; neither by heaven; for it is YAHUAH’S throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Yerushalayim; for it is the city of the great King. 36 Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.

38 Ye have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if any man will sue you at judgment, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whosoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him twain. 42 Give to him that asks of you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not away.

43 Ye have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
