5-11 Shishshiy Khodesh (Elul)
PARASHAT: Bemidbar 30:2 - 36:13
If a man vow a vow unto YAHUAH, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. 3 If a woman also vow a vow unto YAHUAH, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth; 4 And her father hear את eth-her vow, and her bond wherewith she has bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she has bound her soul shall stand. 5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he hears; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she has bound her soul, shall stand: and YAHUAH shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her. 6 And if she had at all a man, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul; 7 And her man heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. 8 But if her man disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make את eth-her vow which she vowed, and את eth-that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of no effect: and YAHUAH shall forgive her. 9 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. 10 And if she vowed in her man's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; 11 And her man heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. 12 But if her man has utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her man has made them void; and YAHUAH shall forgive her. 13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her man may establish it, or her man may make it void. 14 But if her man altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establishes את eth-all her vows, or את eth-all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirms them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. 15 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he has heard them; then he shall bear את eth-her iniquity. 16 These are the statutes, which YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh, between a man and his woman, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father's house.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 2 Avenge the children of Yisra’el of the Midyaniym: afterward shall you be gathered unto your people. 3 And Mosheh spoke unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midyaniym, and avenge YAHUAH of Midyan. 4 Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Yisra’el, shall ye send to the war. 5 So there were delivered out of the thousands of Yisra’el, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. 6 And Mosheh sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and את eth-Piynechac the son of El`azar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand. 7 And they warred against the Midyaniym, as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh; and they slew all the males. 8 And they slew את eth-the kings of Midyan, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, את eth-Eviy,[i] and את eth-Reqem,[ii] and את eth-Tsur, and את eth-Choriy, and את eth-Reva,[iii] five kings of Midyan: את eth Bil`am also the son of Be`or they slew with the sword. 9 And the children of Yisra’el took את eth-all the women of Midyan captives, and את eth-their little ones, and took the spoil of את eth-all their cattle, and את eth-all their flocks, and את eth-all their goods. 10 And they burnt את eth-all their cities wherein they dwelt, and את eth-all their goodly castles, with fire. 11 And they took את eth-all the spoil, and את eth all the prey, both of men and of beasts. 12 And they brought את eth-the captives, and את eth-the prey, and את eth-the spoil, unto Mosheh, and El`azar the priest, and unto the assembly of the children of Yisra’el, unto the camp at the plains of Mo’av, which are by Yarden near Yeriycho.
13 And Mosheh, and El`azar the priest, and all the princes of the assembly, went forth to meet them without the camp. 14 And Mosheh was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle. 15 And Mosheh said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? 16 Behold, these caused the children of Yisra’el, through the counsel of Bil`am, to commit transgression against YAHUAH in the matter of Pe`or, and there was a plague among the assembly of YAHUAH. 17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. 19 And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever has killed any person, and whosoever has touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day. 20 And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood.
21 And El`azar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the Torah which YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh; 22 Only את eth-the gold, and את eth-the silver, את eth-the brass, את eth-the iron, את eth-the tin, and את eth-the lead, 23 Everything that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abides not the fire ye shall make go through the water. 24 And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
25 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying, 26 Take את eth the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, you, and El`azar the priest, and the chief fathers of the assembly: 27 And divide את eth-the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the assembly: 28 And levy a tribute unto YAHUAH of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the cattle, and of the asses, and of the sheep: 29 Take it of their half, and give it unto El`azar the priest, for a heave offering of YAHUAH. 30 And of the children of Yisra’el's half, you shall take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Leviyiym, which guard the watch of the Tabernacle of YAHUAH. 31 And Mosheh and El`azar the priest did as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh. 32 And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, 33 And threescore and twelve thousand cattle, 34 And threescore and one thousand asses, 35 And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him. 36 And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep: 37 And YAHUAH’S tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen. 38 And the cattle were thirty and six thousand; of which YAHUAH’S tribute was threescore and twelve. 39 And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which YAHUAH’S tribute was threescore and one. 40 And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which YAHUAH’S tribute was thirty and two persons. 41 And Mosheh gave את eth-the tribute, which was YAHUAH’S heave offering, unto El`azar the priest, as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh. 42 And of the children of Yisra’el's half, which Mosheh divided from the men that warred, 43 (Now the half that pertained unto the assembly was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep, 44 And thirty and six thousand cattle, 45 And thirty thousand asses and five hundred, 46 And sixteen thousand persons;) 47 Even of the children of Yisra’el's half, Mosheh took את eth-one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Leviyiym, which did guard the watch of the Tabernacle of YAHUAH; as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh.
48 And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto El-Mosheh: 49 And they said unto El-Mosheh, Your servants have taken את eth-the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacks not one man of us. 50 We have therefore brought את eth-an oblation for YAHUAH, what every man has gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before YAHUAH. 51 And Mosheh and El`azar the priest took את eth-the gold of them, even all wrought jewels. 52 And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to YAHUAH, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty sheqels. 53 (For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.) 54 And Mosheh and El`azar the priest took את eth-the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tabernacle of the assembly, for a memorial for the children of Yisra’el before YAHUAH.
NOW the children of Re’uven and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw את eth-the land of Ya`azeyr, and את eth-the land of Gil`ad, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle; 2 The children of Gad and the children of Re’uven came and spoke unto Mosheh, and to El`azar the priest, and unto the princes of the assembly, saying, 3 Ataroth, and Diyvon, and Ya`azeyr, and Nimrah, and Cheshbon, and El`aleh,[iv] and Sevam,[v] and Nevu,[vi] and Be`on,[vii] 4 Even the country which YAHUAH smote before the assembly of Yisra’el, is a land for cattle, and your servants have cattle: 5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in your sight, let את eth-this land be given unto your servants for a possession, and bring us not over את eth-Yarden.
6 And Mosheh said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Re’uven, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? 7 And wherefore discourage ye את eth-the heart of the children of Yisra’el from going over into the land which YAHUAH has given them? 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Qadesh Barnea[viii] to see את eth-the land. 9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshkol, and saw את eth-the land, they discouraged את eth-the heart of the children of Yisra’el, that they should not go into the land which YAHUAH had given them. 10 And YAHUAH’S anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying, 11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Mitsrayim, from twenty years old and upward, shall see את eth the land which I swore unto Avraham, unto Yitschaq, and unto Ya`aqov; because they have not wholly followed me: 12 Save Kalev the son of Yephunneh the Qenizziy,[ix] and Yahusha the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed YAHUAH. 13 And YAHUAH’S anger was kindled against Yisra’el, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of YAHUAH, was consumed. 14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of YAHUAH toward El-Yisra’el. 15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: 17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Yisra’el, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Yisra’el have inherited every man his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Yarden, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Yarden eastward.
20 And Mosheh said unto them, If ye will do את eth-this thing, if ye will go armed before YAHUAH to war, 21 And will go all of you armed over את eth-Yarden before YAHUAH, until he has driven out את eth-his enemies from before him, 22 And the land be subdued before YAHUAH: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before YAHUAH, and before Yisra’el; and this land shall be your possession before YAHUAH. 23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against YAHUAH: and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth. 25 And the children of Gad and the children of Re’uven spoke unto Mosheh, saying, Your servants will do as my lord commands. 26 Our little ones, our women, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gil`ad: 27 But your servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before YAHUAH to battle, as my lord says.
28 So concerning them Mosheh commanded את eth El`azar the priest, and את eth Yahusha the son of Nun, and את eth-the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Yisra’el: 29 And Mosheh said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Re’uven will pass with you over את eth-the Yarden, every man armed to battle, before YAHUAH, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them את eth-the land of Gil`ad for a possession: 30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Kena`an. 31 And the children of Gad and the children of Re’uven answered, saying את eth, As YAHUAH has said unto your servants, so will we do. 32 We will pass over armed before YAHUAH into the land of Kena`an, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Yarden may be ours. 33 And Mosheh gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Re’uven, and unto half the tribe of Menashsheh the son of Yoceph, את eth-the kingdom of Ciychon king of the Emoriym, and את eth-the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.
34 And the children of Gad built את eth-Diyvon, and את eth-Ataroth, and את eth-Aro`er, 35 And את eth-Atroth, Shophan, and את eth-Ya`azeyr, and Yogbehah,[x] 36 And את eth-Beyt Nimrah,[xi] and את eth-Beyt Ha-Ran,[xii] fenced cities: and folds for sheep. 37 And the children of Re’uven built את eth-Cheshbon, and את eth-El`aleh, and את eth-Qiryathayim,[xiii] 38 And את eth-Nevu, and את eth-Ba`al Me`on,[xiv] (their names being changed,) and את eth-Sevam: and gave את eth-other names unto the cities which they built. 39 And the children of Makiyr the son of Menashsheh went to Gil`ad, and took it, and dispossessed את eth-the Emoriy which was in it. 40 And Mosheh gave Gil`ad unto Makiyr the son of Menashsheh; and he dwelt therein. 41 And Ya’iyr[xv] the son of Menashsheh went and took את eth-the small towns thereof, and called them Chavvoth Ya`iyr.[xvi] 42 And Novach[xvii] went and took את eth-Qenath,[xviii] and את eth-the villages thereof, and called it Novach, after his own name.
THESE are the journeys of the children of Yisra’el, which went forth out of the land of Mitsrayim with their armies under the hand of Mosheh and Aharon. 2 And Mosheh wrote את eth-their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of YAHUAH: and these are their journeys according to their goings out. 3 And they departed from Ra`amcec in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the Pecach the children of Yisra’el went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Mitsriym. 4 For the Mitsriym buried all their firstborn, את eth which YAHUAH had smitten among them: upon their elohiym also YAHUAH executed judgments. 5 And the children of Yisra’el removed from Ra`amcec, and pitched in Cukkot. 6 And they departed from Cukkot, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness. 7 And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Piy Ha-Chiyroth, which is before Ba`al Tsephon: and they pitched before Migdol. 8 And they departed from before Piy Ha-Chiyroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days' journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah. 9 And they removed from Marah, and came unto Eylim: and in Eylim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there. 10 And they removed from Eylim, and encamped by the Red Sea. 11 And they removed from the Red Sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Ciyn. 12 And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Ciyn, and encamped in Dophqah.[xix] 13 And they departed from Dophqah, and encamped in Alush. 14 And they removed from Alush, and encamped at Rephiydiym, where was no water for the people to drink. 15 And they departed from Rephiydiym, and pitched in the wilderness of Ciynai. 16 And they removed from the desert of Ciynai, and pitched at Qivrot Hat-Ta’avah. 17 And they departed from Qivrot Hat-Ta’avah, and encamped at Chatseroth. 18 And they departed from Chatseroth, and pitched in Rithmah. 19 And they departed from Rithmah, and pitched at Rimmon Perets.[xx] 20 And they departed from Rimmon Perets, and pitched in Livnah.[xxi] 21 And they removed from Livnah, and pitched at Riccah.[xxii] 22 And they journeyed from Riccah, and pitched in Qehelathah.[xxiii] 23 And they went from Qehelathah, and pitched in Mount Shepher.[xxiv] 24 And they removed from Mount Shepher, and encamped in Charadah.[xxv] 25 And they removed from Charadah, and pitched in Maqheloth.[xxvi] 26 And they removed from Maqheloth, and encamped at Tachath.[xxvii] 27 And they departed from Tachath, and pitched at Terach. 28 And they removed from Terach, and pitched in Mithqah.[xxviii] 29 And they went from Mithqah, and pitched in Chashmonah.[xxix] 30 And they departed from Chashmonah, and encamped at Moceroth.[xxx] 31 And they departed from Moceroth, and pitched in Beney Ya`aqan.[xxxi] 32 And they removed from Beney Ya`aqan, and encamped at Chor Hag-Gidgad.[xxxii] 33 And they went from Chor Hag-Gidgad, and pitched in Yotvathah.[xxxiii] 34 And they removed from Yotvathah, and encamped at Ebronah. 35 And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Etsyon Gever.[xxxiv] 36 And they removed from Etsyon Gever, and pitched in the wilderness of Tsin, which is Qadesh. 37 And they removed from Qadesh, and pitched in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. 38 And Aharon the priest went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of YAHUAH, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Yisra’el were come out of the land of Mitsrayim, in the first day of the fifth month. 39 And Aharon was a hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in Mount Hor. 40 And king Arad the Kena`aniy, which dwelt in the Negev in the land of Kena`an, heard of the coming of the children of Yisra’el. 41 And they departed from Mount Hor, and pitched in Tsalmonah.[xxxv] 42 And they departed from Tsalmonah, and pitched in Punon. 43 And they departed from Punon, and pitched in Ovoth. 44 And they departed from Ovoth, and pitched in Iyey Ha-Avariym, in the border of Mo’av. 45 And they departed from Iyiym,[xxxvi] and pitched in Diyvon.[xxxvii] 46 And they removed from Diyvon, and encamped in Almon Divlathaymah.[xxxviii] 47 And they removed from Almon Divlathaymah, and pitched in the mountains of Avariym, before Nevu. 48 And they departed from the mountains of Avariym, and pitched in the plains of Mo’av by Yarden near Yeriycho. 49 And they pitched by Yarden, from Beyt Ha-Yeshiymoth[xxxix] even unto Avel Hash-Shittiym[xl] in the plains of Mo’av.
50 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh in the plains of Mo’av by Yarden near Yeriycho, saying, 51 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, When ye are passed over את eth-Yarden into the land of Kena`an; 52 Then ye shall drive out את eth-all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy את eth all their pictures, and destroy את eth all their molten images, and quite pluck down את eth all their high places: 53 And ye shall dispossess את eth-the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you את eth-the land to possess it. 54 And ye shall divide את eth-the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give את eth-the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give את eth-the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falls; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit. 55 But if ye will not drive out את eth-the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. 56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying, 2 Command את eth-the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of Kena`an; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Kena`an with the coasts thereof:) 3 Then your south quarter shall be from the wilderness of Tsin along by the coast of Edom, and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the Salt Sea eastward: 4 And your border shall turn from the Negev to the ascent of Ma`aleh Aqrabbiym,[xli] and pass on to Tsin: and the going forth thereof shall be from the Negev to Qadesh Barnea, and shall go on to Chatsar Addar,[xlii] and pass on to Atsmon:[xliii] 5 And the border shall fetch a compass from Atsmon unto the river of Mitsrayim, and the goings out of it shall be at the sea. 6 And as for the western border, ye shall even have the Great Sea for a border: this shall be your west border. 7 And this shall be your north border: from the Great Sea ye shall point out for you Mount Hor: 8 From Mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Chamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Tsedad.[xliv]
9 And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Chatsar Eynan:[xlv] this shall be your north border. 10 And ye shall point out your east border from Chatsar Eynan to Shepham: 11 And the coast shall go down from Shepham to Rivlah,[xlvi] on the east side of Ayin;[xlvii] and the border shall descend, and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Kinneroth[xlviii] eastward: 12 And the border shall go down to Yarden, and the goings out of it shall be at the Salt Sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about. 13 And Mosheh commanded את eth-the children of Yisra’el, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which YAHUAH commanded to give unto the nine tribes, and to the half tribe: 14 For the tribe of the children of Re’uven according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Menashsheh have received their inheritance: 15 The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Yarden near Yeriycho eastward, toward the sunrising. 16 And YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 17 These are the names of the men which shall divide את eth-the land unto you: El`azar the priest, and Yahusha the son of Nun. 18 And ye shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide את eth-the land by inheritance. 19 And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Yahudah, Kalev the son of Yephunneh. 20 And of the tribe of the children of Shim`on, Shemu’el[xlix] the son of Ammiyhud. 21 Of the tribe of Binyamiyn, Eliydad[l] the son of Kiclon.[li] 22 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Dan, Buqqiy[lii] the son of Yogliy.[liii] 23 The prince of the children of Yoceph, for the tribe of the children of Menashsheh, Channiy’el[liv] the son of Ephod. 24 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Ephrayim, Qemu’el the son of Shiphtan. 25 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Zevulun, Eliytsaphan the son of Parnak.[lv] 26 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Yissaskar, Paltiy’el[lvi] the son of Azzan. 27 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Asher, Achiyhud[lvii] the son of Shelomiy.[lviii] 28 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Naphtaliy, Pedah’el[lix] the son of Ammiyhud. 29 These are they whom YAHUAH commanded to divide the inheritance unto את eth-the children of Yisra’el in the land of Kena`an.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh in the plains of Mo’av by Yarden near Yeriycho, saying, 2 Command את eth-the children of Yisra’el, that they give unto the Leviyiym of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Leviyiym suburbs for the cities round about them. 3 And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts. 4 And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Leviyiym, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about. 5 And ye shall measure from without the city on את eth-the east side two thousand cubits, and on את eth-the south side two thousand cubits, and on את eth-the west side two thousand cubits, and on את eth-the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. 6 And את eth among the cities which ye shall give unto the Leviyiym there shall be את eth six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities. 7 So all the cities which ye shall give to the Leviyiym shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give את eth-with their suburbs. 8 And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Yisra’el: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: everyone shall give of his cities unto the Leviyiym according to his inheritance which he inherits.
9 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying, 10 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, When ye are come over את eth-Yarden into the land of Kena`an; 11 Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which kills any person at unawares. 12 And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the assembly in judgment. 13 And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
HAFTARAH: Yermiyahu 2:4-28; 3:4
Hear ye the Word of YAHUAH, O house of Ya'aqov, and all the families of the house of Yisra’el:
5 Thus says YAHUAH, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? 6 Neither said they, Where is YAHUAH that brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt? 7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled את eth-my land, and made my heritage an abomination. 8 The priests said not, Where is YAHUAH? and they that handle the Torah knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Ba`al, and walked after things that do not profit.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, says YAHUAH, and את eth-with your children's children will I plead. 10 For pass over the isles of Kittiym, and see; and send unto Qedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing. 11 Has a nation changed their elohiym, which are yet no elohiym? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. 12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, says YAHUAH. 13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
14 Is Yisra’el a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled? 15 The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant. 16 Also the children of Noph and Tachpanec[lx] have broken the crown of your head. 17 Have you not procured this unto yourself, in that you have forsaken את eth-YAHUAH ELOHAYKA, when he led you by the way? 18 And now what have you to do in the way of Mitsrayim, to drink the waters of Shiychor? or what have you to do in the way of Ashshur, to drink the waters of the river? 19 Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken את eth-YAHUAH ELOHAYKA, and that my fear is not in you, says ADONAI YAHUAH TSEVA’OT.
20 For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree you wander, playing the harlot. 21 Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me? 22 For though you wash with nitre, and take you much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me, says ADONAI YAHUAH. 23 How can you say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Ba`aliym? see your way in the valley, know what you have done: you are a swift dromedary traversing her ways; 24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. 25 Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: but you said, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go. 26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Yisra’el ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, 27 Saying to a stock, You are my father; and to a stone, You have brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. 28 But where are your elohiym that you have made? let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your elohiym, O Yahudah.
4 Will you not from this time cry unto me, My Father, you are the guide of my youth?
BESORAH: Mattithyahu 23:1 - 25:46
THEN spoke YAHUSHA to the multitude, and to his Talmidiym, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Parashiym sit in Mosheh’s seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever he bids you guard, that diligently guard and do; but do not ye after their reforms and traditions: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the tsiytsiyt of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even HAMASHIACH; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your Father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even HAMASHIACH. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye shut up את eth the Kingdom of YAHUAH against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 14 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. 15 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of Gey Hinnom than yourselves. 16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the Temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the Temple, he is a debtor! 17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the Temple that sanctifies the gold? 18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. 19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? 20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, swears by it, and by all things thereon. 21 And whoso shall swear by the Temple, swears by it, and by him that dwells therein. 22 And he that shall swear by heaven, swears by the throne of YAHUAH, and by him that sits thereon. 23 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted את eth the weightier matters of the Torah, Judgment, Mercy, and Faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave את eth the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain את eth at a gnat, and swallow את eth a camel. 25 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 26 You blind Parashiy, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. 27 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. 29 Woe unto you, scribes and Parashiym, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of Gey Hinnom?
34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Hevel unto the blood of Zakaryahu[lxi] son of Berekyahu,[lxii] whom ye slew between the Temple and the altar. 36 Amein I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37 O Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, you that kill the prophets, and stone them את eth which are sent unto you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of YAHUAH.
AND YAHUSHA went out, and departed from the Temple: and his Talmidiym came to him for to show him the buildings of the Temple. 2 And YAHUSHA said unto them, See ye not all these things? Amein I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the Talmidiym came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And YAHUSHA answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am MASHIACH; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because the transgression of the Torah shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this Besorah of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniye’l the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso reads, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Yahudah flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Shabbat: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is HAMASHIACH, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Mashiachiym,[lxiii] and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of Adam be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of Adam in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of Adam coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a shofar,[lxiv] and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Amein I say unto you, This tribe shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noach were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Adam be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noach entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of Adam be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your ADONAI comes. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Adam comes. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. 47 Amein I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
THEN shall the Kingdom of YAHUAH be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, ADONAI, ADONAI, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Amein I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Adam comes.
14 For the Kingdom of YAHUAH is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, lord, you delivered unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, lord, you delivered unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: lo, there you have that is yours. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 You ought therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received את eth my own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him את eth, and give it unto him which has ten talents. 29 For unto everyone that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that has not shall be taken away even that את eth which he has. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 When the Son of Adam shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, ADONAI, when did we see you hungry, and feed you? or thirsty, and gave you drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger, and take you in? or naked, and clothe you? 39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and come unto you? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Amein I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was hungry, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, ADONAI, when did we see you hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto you? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Amein I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
[lxiv] Yom Teru`ah. The day of the awakening blast.
