PARASHAT: Bereshiyth 6:9 - 11:32
These are the generations of Noach: Noach was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noach walked with את eth-ELOHIYM. 10 And Noach begat three sons, את eth-Shem, את eth-Cham, and את eth-Yapheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before ELOHIYM, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And ELOHIYM looked upon את eth-the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted את eth-his way upon the earth. 13 And ELOHIYM said unto Noach, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with את eth-the earth.
14 Make you את eth-an ark of gopher wood; rooms shall you make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which you shall make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shall you make to the ark, and in a cubit shall you finish it above; and the door of the ark shall you set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shall you make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring את eth-a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die. 18 But with you will I establish את eth-my covenant; and you shall come into the ark, you, and your sons, and your woman, and your sons' women with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shall you bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto you, to keep them alive. 21 And take unto you of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to you; and it shall be for food for you, and for them. 22 Thus did Noach; according to all that ELOHIYM commanded him, so did he.
AND YAHUAH said unto Noach, Come you and all your house into the ark; for you have I seen righteous before me in this generation. 2 Of every clean beast you shall take to you by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. 3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. 4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and את eth-every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. 5 And Noach did according unto all that YAHUAH commanded him. 6 And Noach was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noach went in, and his sons, and his woman, and his sons' women with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of everything that creeps upon the earth, 9 There went in two and two unto El-Noach into the ark, the male and the female, as ELOHIYM had commanded את eth-Noach. 10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noach’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 In the selfsame day entered Noach, and Shem, and Cham, and Yapheth, the sons of Noach, and Noach’s woman, and the three women of his sons with them, into the ark;14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went in unto Noach into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as ELOHIYM had commanded him: and YAHUAH shut him in. 17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up את eth-the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. 21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth, and every man: 22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. 23 And את eth-every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heavens; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noach only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.
AND ELOHIYM remembered את eth-Noach, and את eth-every living thing, and את eth-all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and ELOHIYM made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; 2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; 3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noach opened את eth-the window of the ark which he had made: 7 And he sent forth את eth-a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 Also he sent forth את eth-a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. 10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth את eth-the dove out of the ark; 11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noach knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth את eth-the dove; which returned not again unto him anymore.
13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noach removed את eth-the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
15 And ELOHIYM spoke unto Noach, saying, 16 Go forth of the ark, you, and your woman, and your sons, and your sons' women with you. 17 Bring forth with you every living thing that is with you, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. 18 And Noach went forth, and his sons, and his woman, and his sons' women with him: 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creeps upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
20 And Noach built an altar unto YAHUAH; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And YAHUAH את eth-smelled a sweet savor; and YAHUAH said in his heart, I will not again curse את eth-the ground anymore for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite anymore את eth-everything living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
AND ELOHIYM blessed את eth-Noach and את eth-his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish את eth-the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moves upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you את eth-all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 5 And surely את eth-your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require את eth-the life of man. 6 Whoso sheds man's blood, by man shall את eth-his blood be shed: for in the image of ELOHIYM made he man. 7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
8 And ELOHIYM spoke unto Noach, and to his sons with him, saying, 9 And I, behold, I establish את eth-my covenant with you, and את eth-with your seed after you; 10 And את eth-with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish את eth-my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off anymore by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And ELOHIYM said, This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set את eth-my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember את eth-my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between ELOHIYM and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And ELOHIYM said unto Noach, This is the sign of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
18 And the sons of Noach, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Cham, and Yapheth: and Cham is the father of Kena`an[i]. 19 These are the three sons of Noach: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noach began to be a husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Cham, the father of Kena`an, את eth saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Yapheth took את eth-a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered את eth the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. 24 And Noach awoke from his wine, and knew את eth what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Kena`an; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Shem; and Kena`an shall be his servant. 27 ELOHIYM shall enlarge Yapheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Kena`an shall be his servant.
28 And Noach lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noach were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
NOW these are the generations of the sons of Noach, Shem, Cham, and Yapheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Yapheth; Gimer, and Magog, and Madai, and Yavan,[ii] and Tubal, and Meshek,[iii] and Thiyrac.[iv] 3 And the sons of Gimer; Ashkenaz, and Riyphath,[v] and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Yavan; Eliyshah,[vi] and Tarshiysh,[vii] Kittiym,[viii] and Dodaniym.[ix] 5 By these were the isles of the other people divided in their lands; everyone after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
6 And the sons of Cham; Kush, and Mitsrayim, and Put,[x] and Kena`an. 7 And the sons of Kush; Ceva,[xi] and Chaviylah, and Cavta,[xii] and Ra`amah,[xiii] and Cavteka:[xiv] and the sons of Ra`amah; Sheva[xv], and Dedan. 8 And Kush begat את eth-Nimrod: he began to be a warrior and hunter in the earth. 9 He was a warrior and a hunter before YAHUAH: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the warrior hunter before YAHUAH. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erek,[xvi] and Akkad,[xvii] and Kalneh,[xviii] in the land of Shin`ar.[xix] 11 Out of that land went forth Ashshur, and built את eth-Niyneveh,[xx] and את eth-the city Rechovoth,[xxi] and את eth-Kelach,[xxii] 12 And את eth-Recen[xxiii] between Niyneveh and Kelach: the same is a great city. 13 And Mitsrayim[xxiv] begat את eth-Ludiym,[xxv] and את eth-Anamiym,[xxvi] and את eth-Lehaviym,[xxvii] and את eth-Naphtuchiym,[xxviii] 14 And את eth-Pathruciym,[xxix] and את eth-Kacluchiym,[xxx] (out of whom came Pelishtiym,[xxxi]) and את eth-Kaphtoriym.[xxxii]
15 And Kena`an begat את eth-Tsiydon[xxxiii] his firstborn, and את eth-Cheth, 16 And את eth-the Yevuciy,[xxxiv] and את eth-the Emoriy,[xxxv] and את eth-the Girgashiy,[xxxvi] 17 And את eth-the Chivviy,[xxxvii] and את eth-the Arqiy,[xxxviii] and את eth-the Ciynai,[xxxix] 18 And את eth-the Arvadiy,[xl] and את eth-the Tsemariy,[xli] and את eth-the Chamathiy:[xlii] and afterward were the families of the Kena`aniym[xliii] spread abroad. 19 And the border of the Kena`aniym was from Tsiydon, as you come to Gerar, unto Gaza; as you go, unto Cedom,[xliv] and Amorah,[xlv] and Admah, and Tsevo’iym,[xlvi] even unto Lesha.[xlvii] 20 These are the sons of Cham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Yapheth the elder, even to him were children born. 22 The children of Shem; Eylam, and Ashshur, and Arpakshad,[xlviii] and Lud, and Aram. 23 And the children of Aram; Uts,[xlix] and Chul,[l] and Gether, and Mash. 24 And Arpakshad begat את eth-Shelach;[li] and Shelach begat את eth-Eber. 25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Yoqtan.[lii] 26 And Yoqtan begat את eth-Almodad, and את eth-Sheleph, and את eth-Chatsarmaveth,[liii] and את eth-Yerach,[liv] 27 And את eth-Hadoram, and את eth-Uzal, and את eth-Diqlah,[lv] 28 And את eth-Oval,[lvi] and את eth-Aviyma’el,[lvii] and את eth-Sheva, 29 And את eth-Ophiyr,[lviii] and את eth-Chaviylah, and את eth-Yovav:[lix] all these were the sons of Yoqtan. 30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go unto Cephar[lx] a mountain of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32 These are the families of the sons of Noach, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
AND the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shin`ar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto the heavens; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And YAHUAH came down to see את eth-the city and את eth-the tower, which the children of men built. 6 And YAHUAH said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So YAHUAH scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because YAHUAH did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did YAHUAH scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and begat את eth-Arpakshad two years after the flood: 11 And Shem lived after he begat את eth-Arpakshad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 12 And Arpakshad lived five and thirty years, and begat את eth-Shelach: 13 And Arpakshad lived after he begat את eth-Shelach four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 14 And Shelach lived thirty years, and begat את eth-Eber: 15 And Shelach lived after he begat את eth-Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat את eth-Peleg: 17 And Eber lived after he begat את eth-Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters. 18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Re`u:[lxi] 19 And Peleg lived after he begat את eth-Re`u two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. 20 And Re`u lived two and thirty years, and begat את eth-Serug: 21 And Re`u lived after he begat את eth-Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. 22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat את eth-Nachor:[lxii] 23 And Serug lived after he begat את eth-Nachor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 24 And Nachor lived nine and twenty years, and begat את eth-Terach:[lxiii] 25 And Nachor lived after he begat את eth-Terach a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. 26 And Terach lived seventy years, and begat את eth-Avram,[lxiv] את eth-Nachor, and את eth-Haran.
27 Now these are the generations of Terach: Terach begat את eth-Avram, את eth-Nachor, and את eth-Haran; and Haran begat את eth-Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terach in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Kasdiym.[lxv] 29 And Avram and Nachor took them women: the name of Avram’s woman was Sarai; and the name of Nachor's woman, Milkah,[lxvi] the daughter of Haran, the father of Milkah, and the father of Yickah.[lxvii] 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terach took את eth-Avram his son, and את eth-Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and את eth-Sarai his daughter in law, his son Avram’s woman; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Kasdiym, to go into the land of Kena`an; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 32 And the days of Terach were two hundred and five years: and Terach died in Haran.
HAFTARAH: Yesha'yahu 54:1 - 55:5
SING, O barren, you that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you that did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman, says YAHUAH. 2 Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitations: spare not, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes; 3 For you shall break forth on the right hand and on the left; and your seed shall inherit the other people, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 4 Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: neither be confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: for you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. 5 For your Maker is your husband; YAHUAH TSEVA’OT is his name; and your Redeemer the Holy One of Yisra’el; The ELOHIYM of the whole earth shall he be called. 6 For YAHUAH has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in her ruach, and a woman of youth, when you were refused, says your ELOHIYM. 7 For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you. 8 In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on you, says YAHUAH your Redeemer. 9 For this is as the waters of Noach unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noach should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you. 10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, says YAHUAH that has mercy on you.
11 O you afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colours, and lay your foundations with sapphires. 12 And I will make your windows of agotes, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your borders of pleasant stones. 13 And all your children shall be taught of YAHUAH; and great shall be the peace of your children. 14 In righteousness shall you be established: you shall be far from oppression; for you shall not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near you. 15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against you shall fall for your sake. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that blows the coals in the fire, and that brings forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of YAHUAH, and their righteousness is of me, says YAHUAH.
OH!, everyone that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfies not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. 3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. 4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. 5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you know not, and nations that knew not you shall run unto you because of YAHUAH ELOHAYKA, and for the Holy One of Yisra’el; for he has glorified you.
BESORAH: Lucas 24:1-12
NOW upon the Shabbat of the next day, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. 3 And they entered in, and found not the body of ADONAI YAHUSHA. 4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: את eth remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galiyl, 7 Saying, The Son of Adam must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and את eth told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Miryam of Migdal, and Yahuchanon, and Miryam the mother of Ya`aqov, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose Kepha, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
