12-18 Revi'iy Khodesh (Tamuz)
PARASHAT: Bemidbar 19:1 - 22:1
AND YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh and unto El-Aharon, saying, 2 This is the ordinance of the Torah which YAHUAH has commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke: 3 And ye shall give her unto El`azar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one shall slay her before his face: 4 And El`azar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood directly before the Tabernacle of the assembly seven times: 5 And one shall burn את eth-the heifer in his sight; אתeth-her skin, and את eth-her flesh, and את eth-her blood, with her dung, shall he burn: 6 And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. 7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the evening. 8 And he that burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the evening. 9 And a man that is clean shall gather up את eth the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the assembly of the children of Yisra’el for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin.10 And he that gathers את eth-the ashes of the heifer shall wash את eth-his clothes, and be unclean until the evening: and it shall be unto the children of Yisra’el, and unto the stranger that sojourns among them, for a statute forever.
11 He that touches the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days. 12 He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean. 13 Whosoever touches the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifies not himself, defiles את eth-the Tabernacle of YAHUAH; and that soul shall be cut off from Yisra’el: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him. 14 This is the Torah, when a man dies in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days. 15 And every open vessel, which has no covering bound upon it, isunclean. 16 And whosoever touches one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. 17 And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel: 18 And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave: 19 And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at evening. 20 But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the assembly, because he has defiled את eth-the sanctuary of YAHUAH: the water of separation has not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean. 21 And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkles the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that touches the water of separation shall be unclean until evening. 22 And whatsoever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and the soul that touches it shall be unclean until evening.
THEN came the children of Yisra’el, even the whole assembly, into the desert of Tsin in the first month: and the people abode in Qadesh; and Miryam died there, and was buried there. 2 And there was no water for the assembly: and they gathered themselves together against Mosheh and against Aharon. 3 And the people chode with Mosheh, and spoke, saying, Would to ELOHIYM that we had died when our brethren died before YAHUAH! 4 And why have ye brought up אתeth-the assembly of YAHUAH into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? 5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Mitsrayim, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. 6 And Mosheh and Aharon went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the Tabernacle of the assembly, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of YAHUAH appeared unto them.
7 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying, 8 Take את eth-the rod, and gather את eth-the assembly together, you, and Aharon your brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock: so you shall give את eth-the assembly and את eth-their beasts drink. 9 And Mosheh took the rod from before YAHUAH, as he commanded him. 10 And Mosheh and Aharon gathered את eth-the assembly together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11 And Mosheh lifted up את eth-his hand, and with his rod he smote את eth-the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, את eth-and the assembly drank, and their beasts also.
12 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh and El-Aharon, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Yisra’el, therefore ye shall not bring את eth-this assembly into the land which I have given them. 13 This is the water of Meriyvah; because the children of Yisra’el strove with את eth-YAHUAH, and he was sanctified in them.
14 And Mosheh sent messengers from Qadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus says your brother Yisra’el, You know את eth all the travail that has befallen us: 15 How our fathers went down into Mitsrayim, and we have dwelt in Mitsrayim a long time; and the Mitsriym vexed us, and our fathers: 16 And when we cried unto EL-YAHUAH, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Mitsrayim: and, behold, we are in Qadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border: 17 Let us pass, I pray you, through your country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink ofthe water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your borders. 18 And Edom said unto him, You shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with the sword. 19 And the children of Yisra’el said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of your water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet. 20 And he said, You shall not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand. 21 Thus Edom refused to give את eth-Yisra’el passage through his border: wherefore Yisra’el turned away from him.
22 And the children of Yisra’el, even the whole assembly, journeyed from Qadesh, and came unto Mount Hor. 23 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh and El-Aharon in Mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying, 24 Aharon shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Yisra’el, because ye rebelled against my את eth-Word at the water of Meriyvah. 25 Take את eth-Aharon and את eth-El`azar his son, and bring them up unto Mount Hor: 26 And strip את eth-Aharon of את eth-his garments, and put them upon את eth-El`azar his son: and Aharon shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there. 27 And Mosheh did as YAHUAH commanded: and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the assembly. 28 And Mosheh stripped את eth-Aharon of את eth-his garments, and put them upon את eth-El`azar his son; and Aharon died there in the top of the mount: and Mosheh and El`azar came down from the mount. 29 And when all the assembly saw that Aharon was dead, they mourned for את eth-Aharon thirty days, evenall the house of Yisra’el.
AND when king Arad the Kena`aniy, which dwelt in the Negev, heard tell that Yisra’el came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Yisra’el, and took some of them prisoners. 2 And Yisra’el vowed a vow unto YAHUAH, and said, If you will indeed deliver את eth-this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy את eth-their cities. 3 And YAHUAH hearkened to the voice of Yisra’el, and delivered up את eth-the Kena`aniym; and they utterly destroyed them and את eth-their cities: and he called the name of the place Chormah.
4 And they journeyed from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to compass את eth-the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. 5 And the people spoke against ELOHIYM, and against Mosheh, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Mitsrayim to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread. 6 And YAHUAH sent את eth fiery serpents among the people, and they bit את eth-the people; and much people of Yisra’el died.
7 Therefore the people came to Mosheh, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against YAHUAH, and against you; pray unto EL-YAHUAH, that he take away את eth-the serpents from us. And Mosheh prayed for the people. 8 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Make you a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that everyone that is bitten, when he looks upon it, shall live. 9 And Mosheh made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten את eth-any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10 And the children of Yisra’el set forward, and pitched in Ovoth.[i] 11 And they journeyed from Ovoth, and pitched at Iyey Ha-Avariym,[ii] in the wilderness which is before Mo’av, toward the sunrising.
12 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zered.[iii] 13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the coasts of the Emoriym: for Arnon is the border of Mo’av, between Mo’av and the Emoriym. 14 Wherefore it is said in the cepher of the wars of YAHUAH, את eth-What he did in the Red Sea, and את eth-in the brooks of Arnon, 15 And at the stream of the brooks that goes down to the dwelling of Ar, and lies upon the border of Mo’av. 16 And from thence they went to Be’er:[iv] that is the well whereof YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, Gather את eth-the people together, and I will give them water.
17 Then Yisra’el sang את eth-this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it: 18 The princes dug the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the Torah giver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah: 19 And from Mattanah to Nachaliy’el:[v] and from Nachaliy’el to Bamoth: 20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Mo’av, to the top of Picgah,[vi] which looks toward Yeshiymon.[vii]
21 And Yisra’el sent messengers unto Ciychon[viii] king of the Emoriym, saying, 22 Let me pass through your land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's highway, until we be past your borders. 23 And Ciychon would not suffer את eth-Yisra’el to pass through his border: but Ciychon gathered את eth-all his people together, and went out against Yisra’el into the wilderness: and he came to Yahats,[ix] and fought against Yisra’el. 24 And Yisra’el smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed את eth-his land from Arnon unto Yabboq, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong. 25 And Yisra’el took אתeth all these cities: and Yisra’el dwelt in all the cities of the Emoriym, in Cheshbon,[x] and in all the villages thereof. 26 For Cheshbon was the city of Ciychon the king of the Emoriym, who had fought against the former king of Mo’av, and taken אתeth-all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon. 27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Cheshbon, let the city of Ciychon be built and prepared: 28 For there is a fire gone out of Cheshbon, a flame from the city of Ciychon: it has consumed Ar of Mo’av, and Ba`aley Bamoth[xi] of Arnon. 29 Woe to you, Mo’av! you are undone, O people of Kemosh:[xii] he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Ciychon king of the Emoriym. 30 We have shot at them; Cheshbon is perished even unto Diyvon,[xiii] and we have laid them waste even unto Nophach,[xiv] which reaches unto Meydeva.[xv]
31 Thus Yisra’el dwelt in the land of the Emoriym. 32 And Mosheh sent to spy out את eth-Ya`azeyr,[xvi] and they took the villages thereof, and drove out את eth-the Emoriym that were there.
33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edre`iy.[xvii] 34 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into your hand, and את eth-all his people, and את eth-his land; and you shall do to him as you did unto Ciychon king of the Emoriym, which dwelt at Cheshbon. 35 So they smote him, and את eth-his sons, and את eth-all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed את eth-his land.
AND the children of Yisra’el set forward, and pitched in the plains of Mo’av on this side Yarden by Yeriycho.[xviii]
HAFTARAH: Shofetiym 11:1-33
NOW Yiphtach the Gil`adiy was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of a harlot: and Gil`ad begat את eth-Yiphtach. 2And Gil`ad's woman bore him sons; and his woman's sons grew up, and they thrust out את eth-Yiphtach, and said unto him, You shall not inherit in our father's house; for you are the son of a strange woman. 3 Then Yiphtach fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tov:[xix] and there were gathered vain men to Yiphtach, and went out with him.
4 And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Yisra’el. 5 And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Yisra’el, the elders of Gil`ad went to fetch את eth-Yiphtach out of the land of Tov: 6 And they said unto Yiphtach, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. 7 And Yiphtach said unto the elders of Gil`ad, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress? 8 And the elders of Gil`ad said unto Yiphtach, Therefore we turn again to you now, that you may go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gil`ad. 9 And Yiphtach said unto the elders of Gil`ad, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and YAHUAH deliver them before me, shall I be your head? 10 And the elders of Gil`ad said unto Yiphtach, YAHUAH be witness between us, if we do not so according to your words. 11 Then Yiphtach went with the elders of Gil`ad, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Yiphtach uttered את eth-all his words before YAHUAH in Mitspah.
12 And Yiphtach sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What have you to do with me, that you are come against me to fight in my land? 13 And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Yiphtach, Because Yisra’el took away את eth-my land, when they came up out of Mitsrayim, from Arnon even unto Yabboq, and unto Yarden: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably. 14 And Yiphtach sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon: 15 And said unto him, Thus says Yiphtach, Yisra’el took not away את eth-the land of Mo’av, norאת eth-the land of the children of Ammon: 16 But when Yisra’el came up from Mitsrayim, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and came to Qadesh; 17 Then Yisra’el sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray you, pass through your land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Mo’av: but he would not consent: and Yisra’el abode in Qadesh. 18 Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed את eth-the land of Edom, and את eth-the land of Mo’av, and came by the east side of the land of Mo’av, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Mo’av: for Arnon was the border of Mo’av. 19 And Yisra’el sent messengers unto Ciychon king of the Emoriym, the king of Cheshbon; and Yisra’el said unto him, Let us pass, we pray you, through your land into my place. 20 But Ciychon trusted not את eth-Yisra’el to pass through his coast: but Ciychon gatheredאת eth-all his people together, and pitched in Yahats, and fought against Yisra’el. 21 And YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Yisra’el delivered את eth-Ciychon and את eth-all his people into the hand of Yisra’el, and they smote them: so Yisra’el possessed אתeth all the land of the Emoriym, the inhabitants of that country. 22 And they possessed את eth all the coasts of the Emoriym, from Arnon even unto Yabboq, and from the wilderness even unto Yarden. 23 So now YAHUAH ELOHIYM of Yisra’el has dispossessed את eth-the Emoriym from before his people Yisra’el, and should you possess it? 24 Will not את eth you possess that which Kemosh your elohiym gives you את eth to possess? So whomsoever YAHUAH ELOHAYNU shall drive out from before us, them will we possess. 25 And now are you anything better than Balaq the son of Tsippor, king of Mo’av? did he ever strive against Yisra’el, or did he ever fight against them, 26 While Yisra’el dwelt in Cheshbon and her towns, and in Aro`er and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time? 27 Wherefore I have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me: YAHUAH the Judge be judge this day between the children of Yisra’el and the children of Ammon. 28 Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Yiphtach which he sent him.
29 Then the RUACH YAHUAH came upon Yiphtach, and he passed over את eth-Gil`ad, and את eth-Menashsheh, and passed over את eth-Mitspah of Gil`ad, and from Mitspah of Gil`ad he passed over unto the children of Ammon. 30 And Yiphtach vowed a vow unto YAHUAH, and said, If you shall without fail deliver את eth-the children of Ammon into my hands,31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever comes forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be YAHUAH’S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
32 So Yiphtach passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and YAHUAH delivered them into his hands.33 And he smote them from Aro`er, even till you come to Minniyth,[xx] even twenty cities, and unto Avel Keramiym,[xxi] with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Yisra’el.
BESORAH: Mattithyahu 21:1-17
AND when they drew nigh unto Yerushalayim, and were come to Beyt Pag,[xxii] unto the Mount of Olives, then sent YAHUSHA two Talmidiym, 2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, ADONAI has need of them; and straightway he will send them. 4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell ye the daughter of Tsiyon, Behold, your King comes unto you, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. 6 And the Talmidiym went, and did as YAHUSHA commanded them, 7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. 8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Husha’na[xxiii] to the Son of David: Blessed is he that comes in the name of YAHUAH; Husha’na in the highest. 10 And when he was come into Yerushalayim, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11 And the multitude said, This is YAHUSHA the prophet of Natsareth of Galiyl.
12 And YAHUSHA went into the Temple of YAHUAH, and cast out את eth all them that sold and bought in the Temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the Temple; and he healed them. 15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw את eth the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the Temple, and saying, Husha’na to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, 16 And said unto him, Hear you what these say? And YAHUSHA said unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have perfected praise?
17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
