On QOLASIYM: Chapter 3 – Part Five: The Walk

Posted by Stephen Pidgeon on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 12:00 AM

While reviewing the passages concerning uncleanness in Vayiqra (Leviticus), we come to those words which merge the instructions.

Qolasiym (Colossians) 3:5-6

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of YAH comes on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

Compare this comment in the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them, with the instruction from Vayiqra 18:

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 18:1-5

And YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, I am YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM. 3 After the doings of the land of Mitsrayim, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Kena`an, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. 4 Ye shall do את eth-my judgments, and guard את eth-my ordinances, to walk therein: I am YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM. 5 Ye shall therefore guard את eth-my statutes, and את eth-my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am YAHUAH.

There are those who claim that guarding the ordinances of YAH, and walking therein; that guarding his statutes and judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them, is legalism.  Such a claim is a misunderstanding of the teaching of MASHIACH, and the teaching of Sha’ul here.

What you do is how you walk; how you walk, is how you live.  This is why MASHIACH says he is the way, the truth and the life.  Many of today’s believers claim the life, but deny the truth, which is the Torah (Psalm 119:142 Your righteousness (tsedikah) is an everlasting (olam) righteousness (tsedeq), and your torah is the truth (emet). In Hebrew: Tsedikah tsedeq l’olam, v’torah emet), and rebuke the way, which is doing the commandments and the prophets.

What does it look like, when you walk in the way of fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Qolasiym (Colossians) 3:8-11

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Yavaniy nor Yahudiy, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but HAMASHIACH is all, and in all.

Here, the question arises: what is the image of him that created him?

To answer this, we return to our discussion of Qolasiym (Colossians) 1 and 2, where MASHIACH is the head (rosh), whose radiances are chokmah (wisdom); da’ath (knowledge); and binah (understanding); and the body of MASHIACH (the guph) is the seven radiances of tiferah (beauty); chesed (mercy); gevurah (might); yahsod (the mystery of the torah); netzach (long-suffering); hod (majesty); and malchut (the kingdom).

Sha’ul goes on to say that HAMASHIACH is all, and in all.  Now, we know that this is true.

Yahuchanon (John) 8:12

Then spoke YAHUSHA again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

YAHUSHA speaks and affirms that he is the Or Ha’aretz – the light of the world; yet he is also the Or Ayn Soph, the light everlasting.  It is this light which shines through the darkness, which separates the tohu v’bohu (the void and the darkness) to create all that is, which is to say that the Or Ha’aretz / Or Ayn Soph is all, and is in all.

Let us consider whether Sha’ul reaffirms this claim that the rosh and guph are as described above:

Qolasiym (Colossians) 3:12-15

Put on therefore, as the elect (bachiyr – see Yeshayahu 42:1, 45:4, 65:9, 65:22) of YAHUAH, holy (qodesh) and beloved (yachid), bowels of mercies (chesed), kindness (chesed), humbleness of mind (chesed), meekness (chesed), long-suffering (netzach); 13 Forbearing one another (nasa), and forgiving one another (nasa), if any man have a quarrel against any: even as HAMASHIACH forgave you, so also do ye (nasa). 14 And above all these things put on love (ahav), which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of YAHUAH (shalom) rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body (yachad); and be ye thankful (yada).

Virtually all of these are derived from wisdom (chokmah), which is always described in scripture as she. This is again affirmed as we continue:

Qolasiym 3:16-17

Let the word of HAMASHIACH dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace (chen) in your hearts to YAHUAH. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of ADONAI YAHUSHA, giving thanks to YAHUAH the Father by him. (B’ha’shem ADONAI YAHUSHA, yada YAHUAH).

Now, we arrive at that point where Sha’ul gives us new instruction – Halacha if you will, and what appears to be a new mishneh.  But is it?

Qolasiym 3:18

Women, submit yourselves unto your own men, as it is fit in YAHUSHA.

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 3:16

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

Qolasiym 3:19

Men, love your women, and be not bitter against them.

Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 3:18; 21-25

And YAHUAH ELOHIYM said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. . . . 21 And YAHUAH ELOHIYM caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And את eth-the rib, which YAHUAH ELOHIYM had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave את eth-his father and את eth-his mother, and shall cleave unto his woman: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his woman, and were not ashamed.

Qolasiym 3:20

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto YAHUAH.

Shemot (Exodus) 20:12

Honour את eth-your father and את eth-your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which YAHUAH ELOHAYKA gives you.

Qolasiym 3:21

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Mal’akiy (Malachi) 4:4

Remember ye the Torah of Mosheh my servant, which I commanded unto him in Chorev for all Yisra’el, with the commandments and judgments. 5 Behold, I will send you את eth Eliyahu the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of YAHUAH: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite את eth-the earth with a curse.
