18 Asar Ashtay (Shevat) - 24 Asar Ashtay (Shevat)
PARSHAT: Bere'shiyth 47:28 - 50:26
And Ya`aqov lived in the land of Mitsrayim seventeen years: so the whole age of Ya`aqov was a hundred forty and seven years. 29 And the time drew nigh that Yashar’el must die: and he called his son Yoceph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in your sight, put, I pray you, your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray you, in Mitsrayim: 30 But I will lie with my fathers, and you shall carry me out of Mitsrayim, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as you have said. 31 And he said, Swear unto me. And he swore unto him. And Yashar’el bowed himself upon the bed's head.
AND it came to pass after these things, that one told Yoceph, Behold, your father is sick: and he took with him את eth-his two sons, את eth-Menashsheh and את eth-Ephrayim. 2 And one told Ya`aqov, and said, Behold, your son Yoceph comes unto you: and Yashar’el strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. 3 And Ya`aqov said unto El-Yoceph, EL SHADDAI appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Kena`an, and blessed me, 4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people; and will give את eth-this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession.
5 And now your two sons, Ephrayim and Menashsheh, which were born unto you in the land of Mitsrayim before I came unto you into Mitsrayim, are mine; as Re’uven and Shim`on, they shall be mine. 6 And your issue, which you beget after them, shall be yours, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. 7 And as for me, when I came from Paddan Aram,[i] Rachel died by me in the land of Kena`an in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrathah: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrathah; the same is Beyt Lechem. 8 And Yashar’el beheld Yoceph’s את eth-sons, and said, Who are these? 9 And Yoceph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom ELOHIYM has given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray you, unto me, and I will bless them. 10 Now the eyes of Yashar’el were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. 11 And Yashar’el said unto El-Yoceph, I had not thought to see your face: and, lo, ELOHIYM has showed me also את eth-your seed. 12 And Yoceph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 13 And Yoceph took את eth-them both, את eth-Ephrayim in his right hand toward Yashar’el's left hand, and את eth-Menashsheh in his left hand toward Yashar’el's right hand, and brought them near unto him. 14 And Yashar’el stretched out את eth-his right hand, and laid it upon Ephrayim's head, who was the younger, and את eth-his left hand upon Menashsheh's head, guiding את eth-his hands wittingly; for Menashsheh was the firstborn.
15 And he blessed את eth-Yoceph, and said, ELOHIYM, before whom my fathers Avraham and Yitschaq did walk, the ELOHIYM which fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless את eth-the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Avraham and Yitschaq; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. 17 And when Yoceph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephrayim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephrayim's head unto Menashsheh's head. 18 And Yoceph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put your right hand upon his head. 19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In you shall Yashar’el bless, saying, ELOHIYM make you as Ephrayim and as Menashsheh: and he set את eth-Ephrayim before Menashsheh. 21 And Yashar’el said unto El-Yoceph, Behold, I die: but ELOHIYM shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. 22 Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Emoriy with my sword and with my bow.
AND Ya`aqov called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you את eth that which shall befall you in the last days. 2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Ya`aqov; and hearken unto El-Yashar’el your father.
3 Re’uven, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: 4 Unstable as water, you shall not excel; because you went up to your father's bed; then defiled it: he went up to my couch.
5 Shim`on and Leviy are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. 6 O my soul, come not into their secret; unto their assembly, my honour, be not united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they dug down a wall. 7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Ya`aqov, and scatter them in Yashar’el.
8 Yahudah, you are he whom your brethren shall praise: your hand shall be in the neck of your enemies; your father's children shall bow down before you. 9 Yahudah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, you are gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10 The sceptre shall not depart from Yahudah, nor a Torah giver from between his feet, until Shiyloh[ii] come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. 11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes: 12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
13 Zevulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for a haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Tsiydon.[iii]
14 Yisshakar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens: 15 And he saw that rest was good, and את eth-the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.
16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Yashar’el. 17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. 18 I have waited for your yeshu`ah, O YAHUAH.
19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.
20 Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.
21 Naphtaliy is a hind let loose: he gives goodly words.
22 Yoceph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: 23 The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: 24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty ELOHIYM of Ya`aqov; (from thence is The Shepherd, The Stone of Yashar’el:) 25 Even by the ELOHIYM of your father, who shall help you; and את eth by EL SHADDAI, who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: 26 The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Yoceph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.
27 Binyamiyn shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.
28 All these are the twelve tribes of Yashar’el: and this is it that their father spoke unto them, and blessed them; everyone according to his blessing he blessed them. 29 And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Chittiy, 30 In the cave that is in the field of Makpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Kena`an, which Avraham bought את eth-with the field of Ephron the Chittiy for a possession of a buryingplace. 31 There they buried את eth-Avraham and את eth Sarah his woman; there they buried את eth-Yitschaq and את eth Rivqah his woman; and there I buried את eth-Le’ah. 32 The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the children of Cheth. 33 And when Ya`aqov had made an end of commanding את eth-his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up his ruach, and was gathered unto his people.
AND Yoceph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him. 2 And Yoceph commanded את eth-his servants את eth-the physicians to embalm את eth-his father: and the physicians embalmed את eth-Yashar’el. 3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Mitsriym mourned for him threescore and ten days. 4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Yoceph spoke unto the house of Phar`oh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Phar`oh, saying, 5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Kena`an, there shall you bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray you, and bury את eth-my father, and I will come again. 6 And Phar`oh said, Go up, and bury את eth-your father, according as he made you swear.
7 And Yoceph went up to bury את eth-his father: and with him went up all the servants of Phar`oh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Mitsrayim, 8 And all the house of Yoceph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company. 10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond the Yardan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days. 11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Kena`aniym, saw את eth-the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Mitsriym: wherefore the name of it was called Avel Mitsrayim,[iv] which is beyond the Yardan. 12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them: 13 For his sons carried him into the land of Kena`an, and buried him in the cave of the field of Makpelah, which Avraham bought את eth-with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Chittiy, before Mamre.
14 And Yoceph returned into Mitsrayim, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury את eth-his father, after he had buried את eth-his father.
15 And when Yoceph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Yoceph will perchance hate us, and will certainly requite us את eth all the evil which we did unto him. 16 And they sent a messenger unto El-Yoceph, saying, Your father did command before he died, saying, 17 So shall ye say unto Yoceph, Forgive, I pray you now, the transgression of your brethren, and their sin; for they did unto you evil: and now, we pray you, forgive the transgression of the servants of the ELOHIYM of your father. And Yoceph wept when they spoke unto him. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be your servants. 19 And Yoceph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of ELOHIYM? 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but ELOHIYM meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and את eth-your little ones. And he comforted them, and spoke kindly unto them.
22 And Yoceph dwelt in Mitsrayim, he, and his father's house: and Yoceph lived a hundred and ten years. 23 And Yoceph saw Ephrayim's children of the third generation: the children also of Makiyr[v] the son of Menashsheh were brought up upon Yoceph’s knees. 24 And Yoceph said unto his brethren, I die: and ELOHIYM will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he swore to Avraham, to Yitschaq, and to Ya`aqov. 25 And Yoceph took an oath of את eth-the children of Yashar’el, saying, ELOHIYM will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up את eth-my bones from hence. 26 So Yoceph died, being a hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Mitsrayim.
HAFTORAH: Melekiym Ri'shon 2:1-12
NOW the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged את eth-Shalomah his son, saying, 2 I go the way of all the earth: be strong therefore, and show yourself a man; 3 And guard את eth-the watch of YAHUAH ELOHAYKA, to walk in his ways, to guard his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, that you may prosper את eth in all that you do, and את eth-whithersoever you turn yourself: 4 That YAHUAH may continue את eth-his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If your children take heed את eth-to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you (said he) a man on the throne of Yashar’el. 5 Moreover you know את eth also what Yo’av the son of Tseruyah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Yashar’el, unto Avner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Yether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his belt that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. 6 Do therefore according to your wisdom, and let not his gray head go down to She’ol in peace. 7 But show kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gil`adiy, and let them be of those that eat at your table: for so they came to me when I fled because of Avshalom your brother. 8 And, behold, you have with you Shim`iy the son of Gera, a Binyamiyniy of Bachuriym, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Machanayim: but he came down to meet me at the Yardan, and I swore to him by YAHUAH, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword. 9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for you are a wise man, and know את eth what you ought to do unto him; but את eth-his gray head bring you down to She’ol with blood. 10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. 11 And the days that David reigned over Yashar’el were forty years: seven years reigned he in Chevron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Yerushalayim.
12 Then sat Shalomah upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.
BESORAH: Luqas 4:32 - 5:11
And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a ruach of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, 34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with you, YAHUSHA the Netseriy? are you come to destroy us? I know who you are; the Holy One of YAHUAH. 35 And YAHUSHA rebuked him, saying, Hold your peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And they were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commands the unclean ruachoth, and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Shim`on's house. And Shim`on's woman's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with diverse diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on everyone of them, and healed them. 41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are HAMASHIACH the Son of ELOHIYM. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was HAMASHIACH. 42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said unto them, I must preach the Kingdom of YAHUAH to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. 44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galiyl.
AND it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the Word of YAHUAH, he stood by the lake of Kinneroth, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing את eth their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Shim`on's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Shim`on, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Shim`on answering said unto him, Rabbi, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at your word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fish: and their net broke. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When Shim`on Kepha saw it, he fell down at YAHUSHA’S knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O ADONAI. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fish which they had taken: 10 And so was also את eth-Ya`aqov, and את eth-Yahuchanon, the sons of Zavdiy, which were partners with Shim`on. And YAHUSHA said unto Shim`on, Fear not; from henceforth you shall catch men. 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
