8 Asar Shenayim (Adar) - 14 Asar Shenayim (Adar)
PARSHAT: Shemoth 10:1 - 13:16
AND YAHUAH said unto El-Mosheh, Go in unto Phar`oh: for I have hardened את eth-his heart, and את eth-the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him: 2 And that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, את eth what things I have wrought in Mitsrayim, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am YAHUAH. 3 And Mosheh and Aharon came in unto Phar`oh, and said unto him, Thus says YAHUAH ELOHIYM of the Ivriym, How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me. 4 Else, if you refuse to let my את eth-people go, behold, tomorrow will I bring the locusts into your coast: 5 And they shall cover את eth-the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see את eth-the earth: and they shall eat את eth-the remnant of that which is escaped, which remains unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field: 6 And they shall fill your houses, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Mitsriym; which neither your fathers, nor your fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Phar`oh. 7 And Phar`oh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let את eth-the men go, that they may serve את eth-YAHUAH ELOHAYHEM: know you not yet that Mitsrayim is destroyed? 8 And את eth-Mosheh and את eth-Aharon were brought again unto Phar`oh: and he said unto them, Go, serve את eth-YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM: but who are they that shall go? 9 And Mosheh said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto YAHUAH. 10 And he said unto them, Let YAHUAH be so with you, as I will let you go, and את eth-your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. 11 Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve את eth-YAHUAH; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Phar`oh’s presence.
12 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Stretch out your hand over the land of Mitsrayim for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Mitsrayim, and eat את eth-every herb of the land, את eth even all that the hail has left. 13 And Mosheh stretched forth את eth-his rod over the land of Mitsrayim, and YAHUAH brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Mitsrayim, and rested in all the coasts of Mitsrayim: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 15 For they covered את eth-the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat את eth-every herb of the land, and את eth-all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Mitsrayim.
16 Then Phar`oh called for Mosheh and Aharon in haste; and he said, I have sinned against YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM, and against you. 17 Now therefore forgive, I pray you, my sin only this once, and intreat YAHUAH ELOHAYKEM, that he may take away from me את eth-this death only. 18 And he went out from Phar`oh, and intreated YAHUAH. 19 And YAHUAH turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away את eth-the locusts, and cast them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Mitsrayim. 20 But YAHUAH hardened את eth-Phar`oh’s heart, so that he would not let את eth-the children of Yisra’el go.
21 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Stretch out your hand toward the heavens, that there may be darkness over the land of Mitsrayim, even darkness which may be felt. 22 And Mosheh stretched forth את eth-his hand toward the heavens; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Mitsrayim three days: 23 They saw not את eth-one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Yisra’el had light in their dwellings.
24 And Phar`oh called unto Mosheh, and said, Go ye, serve את eth-YAHUAH; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you. 25 And Mosheh said, You must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto YAHUAH ELOHAYNU. 26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve את eth-YAHUAH ELOHAYNU; and we know not with what we must serve את eth-YAHUAH, until we come thither.
27 But YAHUAH hardened את eth-Phar`oh’s heart, and he would not let them go. 28 And Phar`oh said unto him, Get you from me, take heed to yourself, see my face no more; for in that day you see my face you shall die. 29 And Mosheh said, You have spoken well, I will see your face again no more.
AND YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Phar`oh, and upon Mitsrayim; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. 2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. 3 And YAHUAH gave the people את eth-favour in the sight of the Mitsriym. Moreover the man Mosheh was very great in the land of Mitsrayim, in the sight of Phar`oh’s servants, and in the sight of the people. 4 And Mosheh said, Thus says YAHUAH, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Mitsrayim: 5 And all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim shall die, from the firstborn of Phar`oh that sits upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Mitsrayim, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it anymore. 7 But against any of the children of Yisra’el shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that YAHUAH puts a difference between the Mitsriym and Yisra’el. 8 And all these your servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get you out, and all the people that follow you: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Phar`oh in a great anger. 9 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh, Phar`oh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Mitsrayim. 10 And Mosheh and Aharon did את eth-all these wonders before Phar`oh: and YAHUAH hardened את eth-Phar`oh’s heart, so that he would not let את eth-the children of Yisra’el go out of his land.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh and El-Aharon in the land of Mitsrayim, saying, 2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the assembly of Yisra’el, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for a house: 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole multitude of the assembly of Yisra’el shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat את eth-the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and matstsah; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remains of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is YAHUAH’S Pecach. 12 For I will pass through the land of Mitsrayim this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim, both man and beast; and against all the elohiym of Mitsrayim I will execute judgment: I am YAHUAH. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a mark upon the houses where ye are: and when I see את eth-the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Mitsrayim. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to YAHUAH throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever. 15 Seven days shall ye eat matstsah; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eats chamets[i] from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Yisra’el. 16 And in the first day there shall be a holy assembly,[ii] and in the seventh day there shall be a holy assembly to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. 17 And ye shall guard את eth-the Feast of Matstsah;[iii] for in this selfsame day have I brought את eth-your armies out of the land of Mitsrayim: therefore shall ye guard this day in your generations by an ordinance forever.
18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, ye shall eat matstsah, until the one and twentieth day of the month at evening. 19 Seven days shall there be no chamets found in your houses: for whosoever eats that which is with chamets,[iv] even that soul shall be cut off from the assembly of Yisra’el, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. 20 Ye shall eat nothing with chamets; in all your habitations shall ye eat matstsah.
21 Then Mosheh called for all the elders of Yisra’el, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the Pecach. 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. 23 For YAHUAH will pass through to smite את eth-the Mitsriym; and when he sees את eth-the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, YAHUAH will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. 24 And ye shall guard את eth-this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever. 25 And it shall come to pass, when ye are come to the land which YAHUAH will give you, according as he has promised, that ye shall guard את eth-this service. 26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? 27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of YAHUAH’S Pecach, who passed over the houses of the children of Yisra’el in Mitsrayim, when he smote את eth-the Mitsriym, and את eth-delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped. 28 And the children of Yisra’el went away, and did as YAHUAH had commanded את eth-Mosheh and Aharon, so did they.
29 And it came to pass, that at midnight YAHUAH smote all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim, from the firstborn of Phar`oh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. 30 And Phar`oh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Mitsriym; and there was a great cry in Mitsrayim; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
31 And he called for Mosheh and Aharon by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Yisra’el; and go, serve את eth-YAHUAH, as ye have said. 32 Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. 33 And the Mitsriym were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. 34 And the people took את eth-their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. 35 And the children of Yisra’el did according to the word of Mosheh; and they borrowed of the Mitsriym jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: 36 And YAHUAH gave the people את eth-favour in the sight of the Mitsriym, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled את eth-the Mitsriym.
37 And the children of Yisra’el journeyed from Ra`amcec to Cukkoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children. 38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. 39 And they baked matstsah cakes of את eth-the dough which they brought forth out of Mitsrayim, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Mitsrayim, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual.
40 Now the sojourning of the children of Yisra’el, who dwelt in Mitsrayim, was four hundred and thirty years. 41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of YAHUAH went out from the land of Mitsrayim. 42 It is a night to be much observed unto YAHUAH for bringing them out from the land of Mitsrayim: this is that night of YAHUAH to be observed of all the children of Yisra’el in their generations.
43 And YAHUAH said unto Mosheh and Aharon, This is the ordinance of the Pecach: There shall no stranger eat thereof: 44 But every man's servant that is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. 45 A foreigner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof. 46 In one house shall it be eaten; you shall not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. 47 All the assembly of Yisra’el shall keep it. 48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with you, and will keep the Pecach to YAHUAH, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. 49 One Torah shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourns among you. 50 Thus did all the children of Yisra’el; as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh and את eth-Aharon, so did they. 51 And it came to pass the selfsame day, that YAHUAH did bring את eth-the children of Yisra’el out of the land of Mitsrayim by their armies.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto Mosheh, saying, 2 Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever opens the womb among the children of Yisra’el, both of man and of beast: it is mine.
3 And Mosheh said unto the people, Remember את eth-this day, in which ye came out from Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand YAHUAH brought you out from this place: there shall no chamets be eaten. 4 This day came ye out in the month Aviyv.[v]
5 And it shall be when YAHUAH shall bring you into the land of the Kena`aniym, and the Chittiym, and the Emoriym, and the Chivviym, and the Yevuciym, which he swore unto your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep את eth-this service in this month. 6 Seven days you shall eat matstsah, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to YAHUAH. 7 Matstsah shall be eaten את eth seven days; and there shall no chamets be seen with you, neither shall there be leaven seen with you in all your quarters.
8 And you shall show your son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which YAHUAH did unto me when I came forth out of Mitsrayim. 9 And it shall be for a sign unto you upon your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that YAHUAH’S Torah may be in your mouth: for with a strong hand has YAHUAH brought you out of Mitsrayim. 10 You shall therefore guard את eth-this ordinance in his appointed time from year to year.
11 And it shall be when YAHUAH shall bring you into the land of the Kena`aniym, as he swore unto you and to your fathers, and shall give it you, 12 That you shall set apart unto YAHUAH all that open the womb, and every firstling that comes of a beast which you have; the males shall be YAHUAH’S. 13 And every firstling of an ass you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among your children shall you redeem.
14 And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, What is this? that you shall say unto him, By strength of hand YAHUAH brought us out from Mitsrayim, from the house of bondage: 15 And it came to pass, when Phar`oh would hardly let us go, that YAHUAH slew all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to YAHUAH all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem. 16 And it shall be for a mark upon your hand, and for frontlets between your eyes: for by strength of hand YAHUAH brought us forth out of Mitsrayim.
HAFTORAH: Yirmeyahu 46:13-28
The word that YAHUAH spoke to El-Yirmeyahu the prophet, how Nevukadne’tstsar king of Babel should come and smite את eth-the land of Mitsrayim. 14 Declare ye in Mitsrayim, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tachpanchec: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare; for the sword shall devour round about you. 15 Why are your valiant men swept away? they stood not, because YAHUAH did drive them. 16 He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword. 17 They did cry there, Phar`oh king of Mitsrayim is but a noise; he has passed the time appointed. 18 As I live, says the King, whose name is YAHUAH TSEVA’OTH, Surely as Tavor is among the mountains, and as Karmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19 O daughter dwelling in Mitsrayim, furnish yourself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. 20 Mitsrayim is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north. 21 Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation. 22 The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. 23 They shall cut down her forest, says YAHUAH, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable. 24 The daughter of Mitsrayim shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25 YAHUAH TSEVA’OTH, the ELOHIYM of Yisra’el, says; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Phar`oh, and Mitsrayim, with their elohiym, and their kings; even Phar`oh, and all them that trust in him: 26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nevukadne’tstsar king of Babel, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says YAHUAH.
27 But fear not, O my servant Ya`aqov, and be not dismayed, O Yisra’el: for, behold, I will save you from afar off, and את eth-your seed from the land of their captivity; and Ya`aqov shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. 28 Fear not, O Ya`aqov my servant, says YAHUAH: for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven you: but I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet will I not leave you wholly unpunished.
BESORAH: Luqas 7:1-50
NOW when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Kapharnachum. 2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. 3 And when he heard of YAHUSHA, he sent unto him the elders of the Yahudiym, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to YAHUSHA, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: 5 For he loves our nation, and he has built us a synagogue. 6 Then YAHUSHA went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, ADONAI, trouble not yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof: 7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto you: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. 8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. 9 When YAHUSHA heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Yisra’el. 10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Naviyth;[i] and many of his Talmidiym went with him, and much people. 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. 13 And when ADONAI saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. 14 And he came and touched the coffin:[ii] and they that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto you, Arise. 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. 16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified YAH, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That YAHUAH has visited his people. 17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Yahudah, and throughout all the region round about. 18 And the Talmidiym of Yahuchanon showed him of all these things.
19 And Yahuchanon calling unto him two of his Talmidiym sent them to YAHUSHA, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another? 20 When the men were come unto him, they said, Yahuchanon the Immerser has sent us unto you, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another? 21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil ruachot; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. 22 Then YAHUSHA answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell Yahuchanon what things ye have seen and heard; את eth how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the Besorah is preached. 23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
24 And when the messengers of Yahuchanon were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning Yahuchanon, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts. 26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you. 28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than Yahuchanon the Immerser: but he that is least in the Kingdom of YAHUAH is greater than he. 29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, YAHUAH justified, being immersed with the immersion of Yahuchanon. 30 But the Parashiym and lawyers rejected the counsel of YAHUAH against themselves, being not immersed of him.
31 And ADONAI said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this nation? and to what are they like? 32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. 33 For Yahuchanon the Immerser came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He has a devil. 34 The Son of Adam is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! 35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
36 And one of the Parashiym desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Parashiy's house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that YAHUSHA sat to eat in the Parashiy's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Parashiy which had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner. 40 And YAHUSHA answering said unto him, Shim`on, I have somewhat to say unto you. And he said, Master, say on. 41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 43 Shim`on answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, You have rightly judged. 44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Shim`on, See this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45 You gave me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Wherefore I say unto you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. 48 And he said unto her, Your sins are forgiven. 49 And they that sat to eat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgives sins also? 50 And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
