PARASHAT: Vayiqra 9:1 – 11:47
AND it came to pass on the eighth day, that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons, and the elders of Yisra’el; 2 And he said unto El-Aharon, Take a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before YAHUAH. 3 And unto the children of Yisra’el you shall speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering; 4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before YAHUAH; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for today YAHUAH will appear unto you.
5 And they brought את eth which Mosheh commanded before the Tabernacle of the assembly: and all the assembly drew near and stood before YAHUAH. 6 And Mosheh said, This is the thing which YAHUAH commanded that ye should do: and the glory of YAHUAH shall appear unto you. 7 And Mosheh said unto El-Aharon, Go unto the altar, and offer את eth-your sin offering, andאת eth-your burnt offering, and make an atonement for yourself, and for the people: and offer את eth-the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as YAHUAH commanded.
8 Aharon therefore went unto the altar, and slew את eth-the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself. 9 And the sons of Aharon brought את eth-the blood unto him: and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar, and poured out את eth-the blood at the bottom of the altar: 10 But את eth-the fat, and את eth-the kidneys, and את eth-the caul above the liver of the sin offering, he burnt upon the altar; as YAHUAH commanded את eth-Mosheh. 11 And את eth-the flesh andאת eth-the hide he burnt with fire without the camp. 12 And he slew את eth-the burnt offering; and Aharon's sons presented unto him את eth-the blood, which he sprinkled round about upon the altar. 13 And they presented את eth-the burnt offering unto him, with the pieces thereof, and את eth-the head: and he burnt them upon the altar. 14 And he did wash את eth-the inwards andאת eth-the legs, and burnt them upon the burnt offering on the altar.
15 And he brought את eth the people's offering, and took את eth-the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first. 16 And he brought את eth-the burnt offering, and offered it according to the manner. 17 And he brought את eth-the meat offering, and took a handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning. 18 He slew also את eth-the bullock and את eth-the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aharon's sons presented unto him את eth-the blood, which he sprinkled upon the altar round about, 19 And את eth-the fat of the bullock and of the ram, the rump, and that which covers the inwards, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver: 20 And they put את eth-the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the altar: 21 And את eth the breasts and את eth the right shoulder Aharon waved for a wave offering before YAHUAH; as Mosheh commanded. 22 And Aharon lifted up את eth-his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings. 23 And Mosheh and Aharon went into the Tabernacle of the assembly, and came out, and blessed את eth-the people: and the glory of YAHUAH appeared unto all the people. 24 And there came a fire out from before YAHUAH, and consumed upon the altar את eth-the burnt offering and את eth-the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their face.
AND Nadav and Aviyhu, the sons of Aharon, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before YAHUAH, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from YAHUAH, and devoured them, and they died before YAHUAH. 3 Then Mosheh said unto El-Aharon, This is it that YAHUAH spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aharon held his peace. 4 And Mosheh called Miysha’el and Eliytsaphan, the sons of Uzziy’el the uncle of Aharon, and said unto them, Come near, carry your את eth-brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. 5 So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Mosheh had said. 6 And Mosheh said unto El-Aharon, and unto El`azar and unto Iythamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Yisra’el, bewail את eth-the burning which YAHUAH has kindled. 7 And ye shall not go out from the door of the Tabernacle of the assembly, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of YAHUAH is upon you. And they did according to the word of Mosheh.
8 And YAHUAH spoke unto El-Aharon, saying, 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when ye go into the Tabernacle of the assembly, lest ye die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations: 10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 11 And that ye may teach את eth-the children of Yisra’elאת eth all the statutes which YAHUAH has spoken unto them by the hand of Mosheh.
12 And Mosheh spoke unto El-Aharon, and unto El`azar and unto Iythamar, his sons that were left, Take את eth-the meat offering that remains of the offerings of YAHUAH made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar: for it is most holy: 13And ye shall eat it in the holy place, because it is your due, and your sons' due, of the sacrifices of YAHUAH made by fire: for so I am commanded. 14 And את eth-the wave breast and את eth-the heave shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place; you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they be your due, and your sons' due, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Yisra’el. 15 The heave shoulder and the wave breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before YAHUAH; and it shall be yours, and your sons' with you, by a statute forever; as YAHUAH has commanded.
16 And Mosheh diligently sought את eth-the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with El`azar and Iythamar, the sons of Aharon which were left alive, saying, 17 Wherefore have ye not eaten את eth-the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and ELOHIYM has given it you to bear את eth-the iniquity of the assembly, to make atonement for them before YAHUAH? 18 Behold, את eth-the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded. 19 And Aharon said unto Mosheh, Behold, this day have they offered את eth-their sin offering and את eth-their burnt offering before YAHUAH; and such things have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering today, should it have been accepted in the sight of YAHUAH? 20 And when Mosheh heard that, he was content.
AND YAHUAH spoke unto El-Mosheh and to El-Aharon, saying unto them, 2 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, saying, Theseare the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. 3 Whatsoever parts the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and chews the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat. 4 Nevertheless these את eth-shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as את eth-the camel, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 5 And את eth-the coney, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 6 And את eth-the hare, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 7 And את eth-the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he chews not the cud; he is unclean to you. 8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.
9 These את eth-shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have את eth-their carcases in abomination. 12 Whatsoever has no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
13 And these את eth-are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: את eth-the eagle, and את eth-the ossifrage, and את eth-the ospray, 14 And את eth-the vulture, and את eth-the kite after his kind; 15 את eth Every raven after his kind; 16 And את eth-the owl, and את eth-the night hawk, and את eth-the cuckow, and את eth-the hawk after his kind, 17 And את eth-the little owl, and את eth-the cormorant, and את eth-the great owl, 18 And theאת eth-swan, and את eth-the pelican, and the את eth-gier eagle, 19 And the את eth-stork, the heron after her kind, and את eth-the lapwing, and את eth-the bat. 20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you. 21 Yet these אתeth-may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goes upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; 22 את eth-Even these of them ye may eat; את eth-the locust after his kind, and את eth-the bald locust after his kind, andאת eth-the beetle after his kind, and את eth-the grasshopper after his kind. 23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. 24 And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever touches the carcase of them shall be unclean until the evening. 25 And whosoever bears ought of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. 26 The carcases of every beast which divides the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor chews the cud, are unclean unto you: everyone that touches them shall be unclean. 27 And whatsoever goes upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go onall four, those are unclean unto you: whoso touches their carcase shall be unclean until the evening. 28 And he that bears את eth-the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening: they are unclean unto you.
29 These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, 30 And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever touches them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the evening. 32 And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, does fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; so it shall be cleansed. 33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falls, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it. 34 Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water comes shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean. 35 And everything whereupon any part of their carcase falls shall be unclean; whether it beoven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you. 36 Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which touches their carcase shall be unclean. 37 And ifany part of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean. 38 But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcase fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you. 39 And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that touches the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the evening. 40 And he that eats of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening: he also that bears את eth-the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. 41 And every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten. 42 Whatsoever goes upon the belly, and whatsoever goes upon all four, or whatsoever has more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. 43 Ye shall not make את eth-yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. 44 For I amYAHUAH ELOHAYKEM: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile את eth-yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. 45 For I am YAHUAH that brings you up out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your ELOHIYM: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. 46 This is the Torah of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps upon the earth: 47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.
HAFTARAH: Shemu’el Rishon 20:18-42
Then Yahunathan said to David, Tomorrow is the New Moon: and you shall be missed, because your seat will be empty. 19 Andwhen you have stayed three days, then you shall go down quickly, and come to the place where you did hide yourself when the business was in hand, and shall remain by the stone Ezel. 20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark. 21 And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say את eth-unto the lad, Behold, את eth-the arrows are on this side of you, take them; then come: for there is peace to you, and no hurt; as YAHUAH lives. 22 But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond you; go your way: for YAHUAH has sent you away. 23 And as touching the matter which you and I have spoken of, behold, YAHUAH be between you and me forever.
24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the New Moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat. 25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Yahunathan arose, and Avner sat by Sha’ul’s side, and David’s place was empty. 26 Nevertheless Sha’ul spoke not anything that day: for he thought, Something has befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean. 27 And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty: and Sha’ul said unto El-Yahunathan his son, Wherefore come not the son of Yishai to meat, neither yesterday, nor today? 28 And Yahunathan answered את eth-Sha’ul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beyt Lechem: 29 And he said, Let me go, I pray you; for our family has a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he has commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in your eyes, let me get away, I pray you, and see את eth-my brethren. Therefore he comes not unto the king's table. 30 Then Sha’ul’s anger was kindled against Yahunathan, and he said unto him, You son of the perverse rebelliouswoman, do not I know that you have chosen the son of Yishai to your own confusion, and unto the confusion of your mother's nakedness? 31 For as long as the son of Yishai lives upon the ground, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 32 And Yonathan answered את eth-Sha’ul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what has he done? 33 And Sha’ul cast את eth-a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Yahunathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay את eth-David. 34 So Yahunathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for El-David, because his father had done him shame.
35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Yahunathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him. 36 And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now את eth-the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. 37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Yahunathan had shot, Yahunathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond you? 38 And Yahunathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Yahunathan’s lad gathered up את eth-the arrows, and came to his master. 39 But the lad knew not anything: only Yahunathan and David knewאת eth-the matter. 40 And Yahunathan gave את eth-his artillery unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city.
41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the Negev, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed את eth-one another, and wept את eth-one with another, until David exceeded. 42 And Yahunathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of YAHUAH, saying, YAHUAH be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed forever. And he arose and departed: and Yahunathan went into the city.
BESORAH: Marcus 9:1-13
AND he said unto them, Amein I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the Kingdom of YAHUAH come with power.
2 And after six days YAHUSHA takes with him Kepha, and Ya`aqov, and Yahuchanon, and leads them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Eliyahu with Mosheh: and they were talking with YAHUSHA. 5And Kepha answered and said to YAHUSHA, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three cukkot; one for you, and one for Mosheh, and one for Eliyahu. 6 For he knew not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my yachiyd: hear him. 8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man anymore, save YAHUSHA only with themselves. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of Adam were risen from the dead. 10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Eliyahu must first come? 12 And he answered and told them, Eliyahu verily comes first, and restores all things; and how it is written of the Son of Adam, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. 13 But I say unto you, That Eliyahu is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they willed, as it is written of him.
